This clearly a ploy by the Wal Mart fashion police to combat PeopleofWalmart.com and improve the stores image.
Hey look. It's working:

(Actually, WSP sometimes uses these in the tailgating section at Roos field. Jack booted storm troopers.

Serious question though- do you have cameras at all of the major intersections in your town?

What's the big deal?If I parked my car at that train station in NJ, I'd park it right next to that thing. And I wouldn't worry about my wife and kids getting attacked and killed while waiting for a train to pick them up. Paranoid much?

And yes there are police cameras all over the place in Baltimore. You can see the little blinking blue lights blinking everywhere.

Cameras steal your soul-that's the real issue here, don't believe what the government tells you otherwise,

They placed one on main street in Cheney in front of the bars due to some vandalism. It's linked to the police station dispatch, so don't stumble or fumble your keys. Either that or park out back.expandspanos wrote:Serious question though- do you have cameras at all of the major intersections in your town?

There are some cameras at the traffic lights to catch people "running red lights" (I use the term loosely) but they exist to make money for the city, not to spy on folks.expandspanos wrote:Serious question though- do you have cameras at all of the major intersections in your town?
And spanos, from one civil liberatarian to another, don't worry about this. There are plenty of worse encroachments on privacy.

Just paid my first speeding 'fine' administered via camera system.
It did kind of suck.

Re: Mobile Guard Towers in Wallmart Parking lots.
Here in Maryland the gov't has employed mobile speed camera vehicles in construction zones. If you are going 7 mph over the limit in these zones you get slapped with $75 fine. On the weekend, no actual construction going on, those trucks flashes go off every 10 seconds. F'ing BS! Now people are noticing and slam on the brakes and causing accidents.mebison wrote:expandspanos wrote:Serious question though- do you have cameras at all of the major intersections in your town?

I don't think our camera flash, at least not so you notice them. My wife picked up a lovely $75 bill without us realizing those cameras were even there (I knew they put in cameras for red lights, but did not realize they were also doing speed-checks on the interstate).andy7171 wrote:Here in Maryland the gov't has employed mobile speed camera vehicles in construction zones. In fact, the picture of the car they sent was of the back of the car, so its probably on the side of an overpass where you'll never see it.
The bill came from New York, so I claim ECB against me.

I love cameras in public places.......I wish that they were EVERYWHERE! It's too bad that we don't have the resources to do that.
Criminals need to KNOW that someone is watching them.

As for conspiracies...Cedar Rapids smells awful. I think they purposely make it smell bad so that you speed through town to get away from it and they get to ticket you. They need the cameras because cops don't want to have to work there and smell that town all day either.
