Was Auburn's player down?

Post by FargoBison »

Looks like some FBS officiating controversy...

Image
In Williams' case, the officials (a Big 12 crew) drew a clear distinction between the wrists and the hand, and a wrist on the turf means you're down and the play's over. You may not agree with that interpretation, either. But on these two critical plays over the last week either both runners are down, or both are alive. It can't be one or the other. Yet in the last week, it's gone both ways, and a championship may have been decided in that gray area. Oregon just has to deal with it. But it would be nice if there was some clarification before it happens again.

Yes he was down. It was a BS call. His wrist was clearly down, and I think that his ankle was down as well.

Oregon also had an INT taken away on a crap call too.

In Arkansas' case, it didn't matter as I believe they scored on the next play.

And in Auburn's case, even if he was ruled down, Oregon wasn't stopping that drive.

Can't fault the ref for getting it wrong in real time, also the replay didn't look to give enough irrefutable evidence to over-rule it. Either way it doesn't change the fact that EWU is the only D-1 football champ this season.

The hell you say. I saw he was down in real time and all the replays showed I was right. Yes, maybe I should be an official. (saved you all the time of asking :thumb: )

Top of the wrist with the ball is down...bottom of wrist without the ball is not down.

Does one ankle equal one knee if one knee equal two feet? That does need clarification.

But regardless were not talking about this at all if ANYBODY from Oregon simply tackles Dyer because the WHISTLE didn't blow. Play until the whistle.

Substitute 'Delaware' for 'Oregon' and we're pretty much talking about the same thing...don't let it come down to a single play or blown call.

Ding! Ding! Ding! we have a winner. Sometimes I wish all games were blow outs to cut down on the complaining after the game.

you're right, now I'm really confused. I guess all games should be between a 7-14 point margin.

Continuation of the pics posted.... his knee was down before the ball crossed the goal line.

But none of this matters, really. The game is a moot point now.

Uhh, they got plenty of stops/turnovers earlier in the game...Auburn did only win by 3, right? :?

I was just messing with you to see what kind of reaction you'd have.

But seriously, it wasn't like Auburn marched up and down the field all night against Oregon. I think it was still about 50/50 whether the Ducks could stop them on that drive.

Question is...if you're that Duck, how in the hell do you not hold onto that guy for dear life until you hear the whistle blow? It is the championship game after all.

This.

AND...when the Auburn player was ruled down at the half yard line on that same drive...did anyone happen to see the 2nd Oregon guy's miserable attempt to stop him short of the goal line?

Probably the same reason there's holding or blocking in the back on almost every punt, the same reason that Green Bay receiver got up with the INT in the EZ and walked out to the five without being touched, the same reason the Raven intercepted a 4th down pass 30 yards downfield... these guys aint that sharp.

Wrong play. Were talking about the 1st one- the 37 yard run that got Auburn into the red zone. The goal line one that they also reviewed they ruled he was down at the 1/2 yard line.
