As for the question itself, I have no idea, as I haven't really followed who everyone has coming back.
First post: Fan of a young, overachieving team that fell short in the semis and is rightfully pumped about the following season makes brash preseason pick that includes his team in top 5.
Second post: Heartbroken fan of team that choked in national championship makes cynical post about preseason picks.
Third post: Heartbroken fan of team that choked in semifinals makes cynical post about preseason picks.
Fourth post: Another fan of same school that is less cynical says "oh what the hell - what were we going to discuss anyway?"

Don't count on that. They recently hired Mike Kramer, who is an exceptional coach with a ton of experience in the Big Sky who will get them competitive again. They probably won't win a ton of games next year but they won't be as bad as they have been the past 2-3 years.Cujo wrote:1. EWU

Pre Season 8/2010; EWU 14th & UD 19th .... not gonna waste my time guessing 2011 for the next 7 months. But if your looking for the game on the east coast next year look no further than GSU @ APP game. That could be a big one.

The rankings are fun and add an element of intrigue to any sport, but pre-season rankings are generally meaningless. So much will change as new coaches and players emerge, injured players return and new injuries occur, plus other intangibles: unforeseeable match-up factors, let-downs and emotions causing teams to play way above or below their normal levels etc. Factor all that in and you can throw early polls in the toilet and flush `em. Still... I read them religiously like the rest of you. Like I said, they add intrigue. Ahh.... can't wait!!!

Pre season polls for next season shouldn't be based on what happened this past season. This past season should have nothing to do with it.

Yeah, they should be based on future games that haven't been played yet.BDKJMU wrote:Pre season polls for next season shouldn't be based on what happened this past season. This past season should have nothing to do with it.

So you're going to leave EWU out of your top 25 preseason poll for the year coming up? I mean, what would be your reason for having them in there then?BDKJMU wrote:Pre season polls for next season shouldn't be based on what happened this past season. You guys just illustrated the point I was trying to make. These worthless pre season polls are meaningless because they are totally based on what happened the prior season. Whatever pre season top 5 these clowns who vote on these pre season polls come up with, odds are that maybe 1 of them might make the semis, and better than 50/50 that none of them make the NC game. Why people pay attention to them is beyond me, esp since we have the playoffs.GannonFan wrote:So you're going to leave EWU out of your top 25 preseason poll for the year coming up? Re: Preseason top 5 for 2011?
I don't think MSU should be top 5 quite yet, and it doesn't help we may have just potentially lost our star RB for the year.
We just signed a handful of promising transfers however (some with baggage (ironically it is the Montana guys with the baggage)), to shore up some areas of weakness.
If we don't fix our D though, we won't be in the top 10 for long...

Re: Preseason top 5 for 2011?
That's not really what you said above. You should have just said pre-season polls are worthless and shouldn't even exist, not that pre-season polls shouldn't be based on last season. IF you have them, that's pretty much all they can be based on unless a team gets a star transfer.BDKJMU wrote:89Hen wrote: Yeah, they should be based on future games that haven't been played yet.You guys just illustrated the point I was trying to make. Re: Preseason top 5 for 2011?
Preseason polls aren't any less meaningless than mid or late season polls. Like it or not,t he purpose of preseason polls is to give folks a starting place for the rankings to change throughout the season. And even if you have your first poll several weeks into the season, what happened last year will play into the rankings a good bit.
Just imagine what the rankings would be like if you truly "wiped the slate clean" so to speak. What do you go by on the first poll a few weeks into the season? Whoever has the highest average margin of vidctory? think of a bunch of people who know football but know jack about FCS voting in the polls. That's what it would look like if what happened last year had no bearing on it.

1) EWU - Return QB, RB (Brown is a very good back), Renard Williams (Beast of DT, and lots of speed at linebacker and safety)
2) App State - Pressley should progress nicely in his 2nd year of starting
3) UNI - return everybody. Usually a very solid team
4) NDSU - Off all the teams in the playoffs NDSU had the best combination of offensive and defensive lines, If they ever decide to develop a passing game like they had with Walker they will be dangerous.
5)UM - The Griz lost 4 games because they turned the ball 4 times or more in those games. With Breske staying on their defense will again be suffocating with Trumaine Johnson locking down one side of the field. Coach Pflugrad finally figured out that a running game is not a bad thing. They will be a force to be reckoned with whether anybody likes it or not.
