FCS Player Set to Declare for NFL Draft today
According to a source, Eastern Washington RB Taiwan Jones is expected to officially declare himself eligible for the 2011 NFL Draft today. Jones submitted paperwork to the NFL Advisory Committee recently and received a third round grade yesterday. He is currently working to choose an agent right now and should make it official very soon. With Jones entering the draft he should be among the first two or three FCS players taken in the draft and is my number one rated FCS player.

Damn, I've been told EWU can't win without him. I guess we're one and done.
Would have loved to see him play another year in Cheney, but if he's projected that high this makes sense for him. He has nothing left to prove at this level and he can put on some pounds and work on durability whether he stays or goes. Why stay and risk more injuries that would lower his draft rank? Btw, SCFF, how much will his injury history affect his stock?

If he tests out healthy in the medical exams with no permanent damage he shouldn't see it fall much, if at all. Now if they determine he is damaged goods he might not get drafted at all. The doctors have told him good things from what I was told so that shouldn't be an issue.kalm wrote:Damn, I've been told EWU can't win without him. I guess we're one and done.

My concerns on him are that he runs so upright and I think that allows him to get hurt. If he bulks up and runs lower than he has been I think he will be fine. I just hope he is completely healthy heading into the combine.

There's a rumor on the EWU forum about Renard Williams also going. Seems like he has much more left to prove than Taiwan. Any thoughts?

Odd for FCS guys to declare. Does he have family issues that would have him decide to do this??

3rd round projection and a National Title would make me go too......
Anyone know what Taiwan's academic status is? Is he set to graduate or did he already? Could also be a reason why he's going.

Re: FCS Player Set to Declare for NFL Draft today
He definitely does not need to go pro. He needs more work and really doesn't have to worry about injuries like a RB. With that said I see him as a 6th round pick if he comes out now. Could be a 4th round pick if he stays.kalm wrote:Very cool. Thanks.SmallCollegeFBFan wrote:

Re: FCS Player Set to Declare for NFL Draft today
No he is just that good. He has the talent to be a Pro Bowler but will need to stay healthy and run lower to the ground. That running style concerns me but athletically he is the best RB in FCS by far. It's not even close based on talent that he is the best RB in the nation.bluehenbillk wrote:Odd for FCS guys to declare. Does he have family issues that would have him decide to do this??

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I wish him the best of luck, but I really wish he would stay his senior year with a good shot to get another NC (and play in it).

Not saying he will make a Pro Bowl but saying he has the talent. If he stays healthy he will have a very good career. Has a great head on his shoulders. I know for a fact he really thought this out.andy7171 wrote:A Pro Bowler!

Thanks for your continued interest in EWU football!
P.S. - It's 7000, not 3!
Re: FCS Player Set to Declare for NFL Draft today
And oh yeah, good luck to TJ. For selfish reasons, I was obviously hoping to see him stick around for another year, but as was mentioned I guess he doesn't have a hell of a lot more to prove at this level. Just hope his injury doesn't hurt him at the combine. And it wouldn't hurt the school too much having another couple high profile players in the NFL. Hmmm.....the inferno at Roos/Jones Stadium?

This is AWESOME! Everyone knows that the only things that beat the Griz are the Griz themselves, and Taiwan Jones.
All joking aside, I guess it makes sense for him to declare if he can. EWU proved they can win without him, anyways, so for his sake it seems like a good decision. Good luck to him.
(Can't say I'm not a little excited to hear this, though )

You've still got to deal with Brandon Kaufman for 2 more years though.uofmman1122 wrote:This is AWESOME! Everyone knows that the only things that beat the Griz are the Griz themselves, and Taiwan Jones.

Yes indeed. Kaufman is a beast. With his size, speed, and hands he could get drafted in two years for sure.
