Reminds me of the summer I took my kids and their cheap bamboo poles to a pond that had not been fished for probably a decade. It was June, the grasshoppers were everywhere, and they made great bait. The fish, even with their extremely limited mental capacity, were conditioned to strike immediately at the bait. Strike they did, as soon as the grasshoppers hit the water!

The kids came back with strings of carp from as high as they could lift their little arms all the way to the ground. What a great memory!

Where would the world be without fish? And grasshoppers?

Nah. Never really liked fishing much, except for watching my kids have a good time. I have to admit, though, that fishing is more fun than screaming, yelling, falsely accusing, denigrating and threatening others.

I was "beat up" once as a 7th grader, when a HS junior who outweighed my be 150 pounds sat on me. He must have been an offensive lineman! Other than that, I never felt kicked around. Must be blessed. I have always had friends in every clique and never been much of a fighter or had many enemies. Except for that one time in HS, I have never since lost a fight on the three occasions in the past fifty years when pushed. Amazingly, even wandering the back streets of Asia drunk and alone I have never been mugged - maybe its the luck of my Irish grandmother.

To my surprise and delight, I won the lone boxing match of my Navy career, against a Marine who outweighed me by 10 pounds. (Like a dumbshit, I inexplicably lied about my weight - up! ) When I dropped my hands to stare in wonder at his bloody nose, do you know what the summybitch did? He hit me back, right in the kisser!
