Boys Mid-Major Top 25

Post by SuperHornet »

Congrats to ODU @ #2, North Texas @ #11 and Montana landing on the list @ #22.

However, I just don't get how UOP doesn't even get a vote, but bloody Bako does. UOP is admittedly quite inconsistent this year, but has had a MUCH more difficult schedule. (UCLA, Nevada, Texas A&M, SW Missouri State, Santa Clara, and New Mexico State vs. Santa Clara, San Jose State, and Pepperdine)

I didn't even go to the trouble of looking it up because I presumed that it was not a winning record. Anything SH attaches himself to is bound to be under ranked in spite of the record.

Ursus: That DOES include the Griz. I'm probably still in trouble with SE for taking the Griz' part earlier this year.

Jon: Unfortunately for your argument, unlike football, those games count for the tournament. So UOP is legitimately 6-5. Those games won't carry as much weight as other games they've played, but they DO count because they're not among the two exhibitions UOP played.

For RPI, they do not count.

I hate the mid-major poll. Sagarin, RealTimeRPI, Pomeroy, and WarrenNolan all do a better job and this poll simply further divides the "big boys" from the so-called "mid-majors." It's really not an honor to be in it because it's pretty meaningless, and only the top 5 or so teams in it will make the tournament.

Here is the top 25 RPI (as of 8PM 12/26) non-BCS conference top 35 using RPI (RealTimeRPI). I'll bold those that would have a legit chance at-large if they didn't win their auto-bid...assuming they play well through the season)

1. BYU
2. Butler
3. San Diego State

4. Cleveland State
5. Old Dominion
6. UNLV
7. Temple

8. Drexel
9. Central Florida
10. Portland
11. Kent State
12. Vermont
13. Xavier
14. Princeton
15. Northern Iowa
16. Southern Miss
17. Wichita State
18. UCSB
19. St. Mary’s
20. Utah State
21. Memphis
22. Davidson
23. Akron
24. Harvard
25. Gonzaga
26. Richmond
27. New Mexico
28. Coastal Carolina
29. George Mason
30. Ball State
31. Nicholls State
32. UAB
33. Oakland
34. SHSU
35. Murray State
However, not all of these teams are “thought of” as mid-major. So going by teams that are “thought of” as mid-major (those that participate in the Bracketbuster and would be labeled as a mid-major come March) we get a top 25 like this (yes I’ll include low major teams in this as well if there are any). Again I'll bold those with a "legit at large chance" as of right now. Now this could/will change but as of now and historically

1. Butler
2. Cleveland State
3. Old Dominion
4. Temple
5. Drexel

6. Portland
7. Vermont
8. Princeton
9. Northern Iowa
10. Wichita State

11. UCSB
12. St. Mary’s
13. Utah State
14. Davidson
15. Harvard
16. Gonzaga
17. Richmond
18. Coastal Carolina
19. George Mason
20. Nicholls State
21. Oakland
22. SHSU
23. Murray State
24. Robert Morris
25. James Madison

The Mid-Major top 25 is an embarrassment to a fan of any school that is worth a damn. The top teams from the CAA, the entire MVC, and Butler should be (and are) embarrassed to be a part of it. There are reasons that Gonzaga (and thus the entire WCC) pulled out of the Bracketbuster. It added a label to them that could and would be used against them.

Apparently you haven't been around long enough to know that I don't buy name changes. That second-tier school in Springfield will FOREVER be Southwest Missouri State for me.

BTW, I call it second-tier because in Springfield the best school is Evangel.

Newest poll

Montana to 14. SW MO to 7. One Big South in poll (13 CCU), another gets votes (Liberty). Other FCS schools involved, too.

Because that makes total sense...
:coffee:

But I guess we are ok with it if our own school wants to rebrand itself with a new name...

You choose to participate in it. I find it funny that the WCC chooses to be a part of this but doesn't want any part of the Bracket Buster, save St. Mary's...Same thing for Butler...

Not true at all. Only D-I games count on your record. Non D-I games are removed from your record come tournament time. So once again, only a loss in those games would be considered.

The efforts to get a four-year university in Sacramento date back to the 1920s, however Bay Area politics prevented the founding until 1947 (most likely because of competition, with Sacramento being in such close proximity to the Bay Area). The University's colors green and gold symbolize the green of the foothills and trees, and gold for discovery.

The university was founded as Sacramento State College in 1947 during a time of intense demand for higher education after World War II. At the time of its founding, Sac State shared space at Sacramento Junior College.

By 1953, the school had moved to its permanent location on the banks of the American River. Jackrabbits were a problem in the early years and landscapers were permitted to shoot them on sight. Sacramento State became part of the California State University system in 1960, and in 1972, the university changed its name to California State University, Sacramento.
So, you just completely fucked yourself. :dunce: :dunce: :dunce:
