He wasn't on the original list I was given. I was told 6 were interviewed:
Bob Sanders
Joe Reich
Pizzo
Ron Dickerson
Lance Leipold
Scott Wachenheim
None of you mentioned his name earlier. Are you telling me that they interviewed 7 in the span of 6 days? Excuse me, I'm retired military. Give it to me in black and white. Why was his name not listed or mentioned by ANYONE in over 4 pages if he was among the original group?

Hut - I mentioned on pg 2 of this thread on Tuesday that a 7th candidate was being inteviewed. Got it from another poster on this thread via phonecall who picked it up off a site. Can't recall the site after all that has transpired the last two days but it wasn't the Football Scoop. I also have my own Running Bulldog player to keep me somewhat informed when he decides to call home which isn't often but then the kid is busy with all that really hard college life stuff, you know the real hard stuff like lifting weights, hanging out, going to class for a few hours a day, studying some, eating, sleeping, more eating, girls, you know the hard stuff.

So I also know what comes from playing O line, if your winning the O line is not mentioned and if your losing the O line just is not playing well. I know both sides, and I was worried about this past season because of the lack of experience at that position, did not mean to offend you but dont insult me because you think I know nothing of GW.
Horseman, reread my post and could not find where I insulted you other than disagreeing with you . If you took it as an insult I apologize for it was not meant that way. Just defending the players which is what a dad should do. Glad you are a GW fan and Alumni as well as a SC fan. I know several of the players at SC and pull for them also. But since my kid is at GW so is my heart. Peace Out :D

I'll continue the Airplane funnies:

Hanging Lady: Nervous? [As to whether we will be able to hire a new coach or not]
Ted Striker: Yes.
Hanging Lady: First time?
Ted Striker: No, I've been nervous lots of times.

On a more serious note, I may actually start to be encouraged by the lack of the hiring of a new coach. I say this assuming that we are going to have a lousy recruiting class anyway since every other school we are recruiting against already has a stable coaching staff in place. My understanding is that Coach Wachenheim turned us down because he was well aware of Liberty's facilities and their willingness to financially support their program and he did not feel the like sort of financial commitment from our administration.

Don't get me wrong. I honestly don't expect Gardner-Webb to double or triple what we spend on our football program to even us up with Liberty and Stony Brook. However, I do hope that the powers that be are listening to those who have participated in the upper tier programs in the Big South or FBS and/or NFL programs when these candidates tell them what sort of financial investments need to be made in order to field a quality football team against the level of competition that we are now facing in the Big South.

Elaine Dickinson: There's no reason to become alarmed, and we hope you'll enjoy the rest of your flight. By the way, is there anyone on board who knows how to fly a plane? [or hire a football coach?]

Hut,

He wasn't on the original list. He was brought in at the last minute. I like his resume, but, after being told we were interviewing 6 people which took over 8 days, I started to get fed up with the interviewing process. To me, it just seemed that those responsible were trying to drag this process out as long as possible. Unfortunately, nothing has changed in recent days to help me feel any better about this process.

January 21, 1994 Lorena Bobbitt found temporarily insane of chopping off spouse's penis
January 21, 1993 Johan Koss skates world record 5 km in 6:38.77
January 21, 1987 BB King donates his 7,000 record collection to the University of Mississippi
January 21, 1979 Superbowl XIII: Pittsburgh Steelers beat Dallas Cowboys, 35-31 in Miami Superbowl MVP: Terry Bradshaw, Pittsburgh, quarterback

These are just a few of the things that have happened on January 21st. Could GW possibly hire a HC on January 21, 2011??? That would surely be one for the record books!!

I am just now being led to believe that we have reached an agreement with our next head coach. In the spirit of stretching this process out as long as possible, the official announcement will not be until tomorrow.

Rumack: I won't deceive you, Mr. Striker. We're running out of time [to hire a new head coach].
Ted Striker: Surely there must be something you can do.

Agreed, I don't think this process should be taking so long when you have Joe Pizzo sitting in your backyard!

I never thought Id register to voice in on one of these things but after reading these comments I couldn't help myself. As a past player at GWU and GA I couldn't help but give my sight on a few opinions....

1. Whoever the new coach is will do his best to get the program back to winning Championships real soon or he wont stay long...and then Burch will mostly likely go too.
2. The Doolittle Drama...There was none. Mike did his job first and had zero to do with Stans playing time. Devin was a great HS quarterback that had all the tools in the world but never had the determination or work ethic for it to carry over consistently in the college game.
3. King is a great coach....young, yes...but this guy knows his football and is great with the players. And I played for 2 years without seeing a single game performance grade. If you don't know as a player whether you did your job or not you probably shouldn't be in the game in the first place.

Looking forward for the announcement of the new coach and getting back to winning some games so I can enjoy a Homecoming game victory with fellow alum!

Best Wishes fellas

GWU85,

I agree with you on 2 of your points but I have to say that there was some drama with Coach Doolittle, Stan had all the tools to be a great QB but like I said earlier he got nervous in the pocket at times so do I think that his dad was the reason he played.... not necessarily but I do think that what the drama came from with Coach Doolittle is how he treated some players.

Review of the game flim should let you know everything you need to know about if you did your job or not, if you are honest with yourself and Coach king is a great coach I was really excited when they hired him back because I know what a great job he can do.

After waking up this morning to voicemails and missed phone calls from GWU coaching staff members about my earlier post I felt obligated to keep this going

Mr. Horseman,

Honesty is what I do....and being honest, Doolittle had nothing to do with Stan playing. Sure he broke out of the pocket when he had pressure, he had to...when you're starting freshman its a learning experience for everyone, and doesn't help your quarterbacks performance or confidence in the pocket. Doolittle was again a great coach that knew what he was coaching on both sides of the ball....but I guess everyone has there right to post whatever they want whether it has any weight or not. And good luck trying to talk Pizzo into playing "your" kid....I can't imagine that would work....they play the best players they have to play, they're not in this business to make friends with parents but to win ballgames.

Again, I didn't get graded my freshman nor sophomore year...sure would have been nice, but necessary? Nah, I knew when I came off the field whether or not I missed any assignments, had penalties, or made a great play. I understand wanting to be graded for the sure and simple fact of getting a pat on the back from your coach or not, but knowing a day later or a week later if you graded out an 76% or a 93% has nothing to do will how they as an individual player will be coached for that week.....but more importantly as a unit. If anything, grade the O-line as one.

Until next time :thumb:

GWU85 that is the way it should be, playing the best player. However treating players that are under you with disrespect is not called for, I am not a parent of any player so I aint worried trying to get a kid to play I could care less you plays or sits. But you need to treat people the right way and Doolittle did not do this to some players and thats what I am talking about.

I agree players should be treated with respect, everyone deserves that. And no I guess Im not on the "inside" anymore, but I was when Doolittle was around. Let me guess, your accusations are hear-say? I didn't see or hear anything of that nature about Doolittle during his stint with GWU....when I was on the "inside". Its a shame to talk trash about our coaches past or present on this site hidden behind a computer. These guys bust their ass to win ball games, for whatever reason we haven't been as fortunate lately as we were years ago, but I assure these coaches are doing whatever they can to prepare their players to play at their best. And playing favorites....come on Horseman.

Well just some examples.....
-Telling a kid he is faking an injure to miss spring ball
-Telling a kid he is trying to b.i.t.c.h out of spring do to an ACl surgury
-Not knowing one of your players is a senior and forgetting to say he is one numerous times even after you have been corrected
-When you are losing a blow out game and you walk up to 2 O lineman standing next to each other and you tell one he is going in and the other one (a senior) you say nothing to even though he practices with the ones.
-In the last game of the season not letting a senior get in the game when you are winning by 2 touchdowns

want more.......

But the players never say anything to the public because they dont want the program to get a bad wrap or even get in trouble. Sorry if you only saw the good, which there was a ton of good when Doolittle was there but there also dark sides too
