Jesse Ventura sues TSA

Jesse Ventura sues TSA, says body scans and pat-down searches violate rights
pioneer press ^ | 1-24-11 | Amy Forliti

Former Minnesota Gov. Jesse Ventura sued the Department of Homeland Security and the Transportation Security Administration on Monday, alleging full-body scans and pat-downs at airport checkpoints violate his right to be free from unreasonable searches and seizures.

Ventura is asking a federal judge in Minnesota to issue an injunction ordering officials to stop subjecting him to "warrantless and suspicionless" scans and body searches.

The lawsuit, which also names Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano and TSA Administrator John Pistole as defendants, argues the searches are "unwarranted and unreasonable intrusions on Governor Ventura's personal privacy and dignity and are a justifiable cause for him to be concerned for his personal health and well-being."

Finally SOMEBODY has the nads to challenge Napolitano's Gestapo.

How about we do with that what Brown's doing with the Secretary of Education and the Inspector General? As in dump them as redundant positions? Send the Coasties, ICE, and Border Patrol to Defense, dump the useless cavity violators at TSA, send FEMA, the Secret Service, and Immigration to State, and redistribute or dump the rest as necessary.

I really don't know if ol Jesse has much standing here.

As much as I dislike the window dressing security measures (that have arguable merit or effectiveness), flying is not a right. You do not have an inherent right to hop on an airplane and fly to NYC from LA, particularly when more personal modes of transportation are available.

Airlines and the government do have standing to deny service to passengers who may pose a public safety risk, and in order to overcome the assumption, one can be reasonably expected to submit to searches in return for the privilege of hopping on a commercial aircraft. States deny people their driver's licenses all the time, and they also require what is known as "implied consent" to searches as a condition of having a driver's license.

Agree with it or not, fine. Right now the law is on the government's side and not Jesse's.

Agreed,
Don't like it - then - Don't fly

That said however I do believe the TSA should be a private organization with Federal oversight

Probably because you respected the people doing their jobs at the airport. Same thing at Canadian border crossings, most people that respect the border agents have no problem. The ones that get smart and disrespect the agents, can get the strip search and their car torn apart.

I've met this guy on several occasions... he is certifiably insane. Completely nuts. Thank God he had a team of excellent advisers around him when he was Governor...

Great post. :thumb:
"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."
