THE Official State of the Union Thread
AWESOME! You guys see Obama walk down, campaigning his way to the podium. Shameless. He's making a mockery of this.....A MOCKERY. And by an illegal, undocumented President no less. It's a shame...

"Sarah Palin absolutely blew AWAY the audience tonight. If there was any doubt as to whether she was savvy enough, tough enough or smart enough to carry the mantle of Vice President, she put those fears to rest tonight. She took on Barack Obama DIRECTLY on every issue and exposed... She did it with warmth and humor, and came across as the every-person....it's becoming mroe and more clear that she was a genius pick for McCain."

Get rid of energy subsidies that work and give them to green energy that doesn't work.

The oil industry is the most profitable in the history of mankind. They hardly need subsidies to survive.Bronco wrote:Get rid of energy subsidies that work and give them to green energy that doesn't work.

This. While they are at it, cut farming subsidies too. Hell cut all the subsidies to anyone.Grizalltheway wrote:The oil industry is the most profitable in the history of mankind. Oil industry doesn't need subsidies to survive, but the less fortunate people don't need the oil industry raising prices for gas to get to work and heating their homes while green energy is being developed. The poor won't be paying taxes for oil subsidies, they will be paying them directly. Needs to be a transition period to keep prices in check.Grizalltheway wrote:The oil industry is the most profitable in the history of mankind. Re: THE Official State of the Union Thread
That's a really good point. But you could also ask whether the working poor are really able to own a car and afford single driver commuting expenses versus mass transit. Subsidies enable bad behavior and slow the demand for clean energy.Gil Dobie wrote:Oil industry doesn't need subsidies to survive, but the less fortunate people don't need the oil industry raising prices for gas to get to work and heating their homes while green energy is being developed. Re: THE Official State of the Union Thread
If gas prices go up, so do the mass transit prices that use gas, same with car pooling, larger vehicles use more fuel and the cost would increase. Many of the cars that the poor have are gas guzzlers, because that's what they can afford. Many cities have limited trains and rely on a bus system. The bus system in the Twin Cities use subsidies, and the buses are looking rather full right now. I'm looking forward to living in the bay area and using mass transit to get almost anywhere.kalm wrote:That's a really good point.
