More Trouble at JMU

Post by 93henfan »

Coming fresh off the heels of the four felony assaults by JMU players back in November, more out of Harrisonburg from over the weekend, with football players quite possibly being involved in this one too:

Tweet from Mike Barber (MikeABarber), assistant sports editor and JMU football writer at the Daily News-Record:
Sources confirm JMU investigating involvement of members of the football team in the weekend fight at a frat party that left 3 hospitalized.
The incident in question:

http://www.breezejmu.org/news/article_d ... 2bc8b.html
Blood covered the floor of a Lambda Chi Alpha house early Saturday morning after a brawl sent several men to the hospital, witnesses say.

At least eight victims were assaulted and three were taken to Rockingham Memorial Hospital with non-life threatening injuries after an unidentified group of men entered the house, police said Sunday afternoon. The assault happened around 2:30 a.m. Saturday at a party inside 1225 S. Main St.

RMH could not release the status of the unnamed victims Sunday afternoon.

Two witnesses, who wish to remain anonymous for their personal safety, said many of the suspects were black men wearing jeans and dark sweatshirts with their hoods up. Approximately 15 men were fighting that night, according to what witnesses told The Breeze.

"It was really, really brutal," one witness said. "It reminded me of ‘American History X' where people were getting beat on - there was just blood everywhere."

Police are still investigating the incident and obtaining information about suspects. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Solvers at 540-574-5050.

"They didn't just punch and leave," the same witness said. "They kept pounding the guys and they were pummeling them."

Junior Mike Hill, president of Lambda Chi, said the fraternity is still operating as usual and is working with Harrisonburg Police about the incident.

While the assault happened at the house on the corner of South Main Street and Port Republic Road, which is listed on the fraternity's website, the fraternity's new chapter house is at 1357 S. Main St., according to the group's Facebook page.

Lambda Chi "doesn't want anyone to hold this organization in different esteem in response to any rumors that are circulating," Hill said.

Reports on how the situation escalated are unclear among witnesses.

"We were all dancing in the back room and we heard bottles break and saw guys shuffling and fighting," the female witness said.

She said she had heard that two men were asked to leave the party earlier in the evening but refused to leave. Witnesses claim that other men then arrived and the brawl ensued. Members of Lambda Chi declined to comment further.

The female witness said she and other partygoers were yelling "stop, stop" as the assault was happening.

"After five minutes or so, all the guys in the hoodies left," she said. "I guess they figured they did what they needed to
do and ran off."

Soon, the house was surrounded with several police cars, fire trucks and ambulances.

The witness and her roommates left after talking to police and talked to their cab driver on their way home. She said he reported driving two black men from Copper Beech to the fraternity house about an hour earlier and listening to them talk about fighting and getting revenge for something.

Attempts to reach the driver were unsuccessful.

"The guy fighting him gave him a swift kick to the head," he said. "He kicked him a couple times - he was kicking him like a kicker would kick a football."

Several victims had cuts on their eyebrows, faces, bruises and swollen faces.

"I've seen some stuff but nothing like this," he said.

Eric Clapton disagrees. I have to side with him cuz knockin' boots with a bar room dirty bottom often happens after midnight as well.

Trying to get in on some of Alpha's cool lingo with that last one.

Sounds like more of the same. A couple guys asked to leave who couldn't hold their own, then ask others to help out.

I hate to say it, but if the JMU football team can't even handle a frat party, how are they to handle getting smacked around on the field?

Hell at Montana, our guys just kill people. None of this using a lifeline to call backup.

My guess on how things went down:

Lambda Lambda Lambda Chi Brother: Hey Buddy, we're going to have to ask you to leave.

Football Player: Fuck you buddy, no homo, but we aren't leaving.

Lambda Lambda Lambda Chi Brother: Listen guy, my brothers and I will fuck you up, homo.

Footballl Player: Friend, My boy and I will take you down right now!

Lambda Lambda Lambda Chi Brother: I'm not your friend, guy! You and your boy couldn't take us all, so you'd better leave before we fuck you up, homo.

Football Player: Alright Buddy, we'll be back.

(A few hours later)

Football Player: Drop your pants and grab your toes! I'm gonna show you where the wild goose goes! No homo...

(A scuffle ensues)

You knew things were on the downward slide already in Harrisonburg with all their offensive struggles that even a FR QB transfer won't be able to hide, but they can't afford to lose more players. Well that's life in the back half of the CAA. Next up will be Mickey with a case of whiplash watching ODU zoom past him.

Last 7 seasons 04'-10' JMU has finished ahead of UD in the CAA standings every season except for one- this past season. Last 8 seasons JMU has had a losing record in the CAA once- this past season. Back half of the CAA my ass.

And ODU won't be whiplashing past JMU. And if they were, they'd be passing UD 1st.

So if we're looking at the last eight seasons, let's check championships, championship game appearances, and playoff records:

UD: 1, 3, 11-3
JMU: 1, 1, 6-3

Pwned how, exactly? :coffee:

Wrong.

Div I records 03'-10' I count:
JMU 64-31
UD 60-36

I counted CAA record 2003-2008:
JMU 43-21
UD 37-27

Next question ;)

Nope, I'm right. UD has 68 wins to JMU's 67 from 2003 to present. :kisswink:

And quite frankly, as you pointed out, this includes a lean stretch in the 05, 06, 08, and 09 seasons. It's gotta really annoy you that we still have more wins, particularly the big UD advantage in playoff wins.

This goes back to the Tubby vs KC arguments that always creep up on GoHens. Would you rather be competitive most years but a flounderer in the playoffs, or a little more up and down from season to season building to deep playoff runs with trips to Chatty and Frisco every three years or so?

Yeah, if you count Div II wins ;) UD has 8 cupcake win vs Div II WCU in the last 8 years. And you still continue to play them. JMU in that time span only played 3 Div II. On top of that JMU played 6 I-A, all 6 BCS. UD played only 4 I-A, and 1 BCS. So despite JMU's significantly tougher OOC schedule, UD still has 5 more losses than JMU over these last 8 seasons, 36-31

So lets see, counting UD's more Div II, less I-A games, thats only 1 more win vs 5 more losses, a worse CAA record, and...oh, yeah, the one that counts the most, head to head over these last 8 seasons. JMU 4, UD 3. ;)

Jesus Christ, listening to JMU fans with their small, recent window of success (a window that will be closed for at least the next couple of years) is similar to listening to the brash, classless rants of a new money fool who hit a small lottery. UD is the old money school and we are amused by the trash talk and actions of anything and anyone related to JMU's supposed success on the football field.

JMU is set to have yet another crappy year in 2011. They spend their load and will go back to watching other programs win while they try to avoid yet another criminal record.

Mickey and JMU football are destined for a date on the Jerry Springer show. Show your pride, Dawgs!

Personally I think ODU could be ahead of JMU this year. JMU had a really good defense last year, it took a hit with the felonies that happened a month or two ago & who knows who's involved with the latest weekend brawl other than their QB Edwards per JMU's board.

Defense isn't their problem though - D'Quan(sp) Scott is the only skill guy they have that is scary & the OL which had been the teams strength for years was their achilles heel last year - and there is no real reason to expect a 180 there this year. I understand the optimism about Cosh but 1- he's a FR, 2 - taking it from a school (UD) that has had a lot of transfer QB's - even guys like Flacco & Devlin were only able to so so much in their 1st year without talent around them & 3- JMU under MM has never been a passing offense, it's always been run 1st.

ODU should make some noise this year - I'd expect they'd win at least 3 league games.

So hard to say. Our weakness is our defense which can make a bad offense look good. Our offense will have a fair amount of playing experience and I think we can put points on the board. If we stay healthy, the most we could win is 4 and the least I would expect is 2.
