bluehenbillk wrote:Personally I think ODU could be ahead of JMU this year. JMU had a really good defense last year, it took a hit with the felonies that happened a month or two ago & who knows who's involved with the latest weekend brawl other than their QB Edwards per JMU's board.

Defense isn't their problem though - D'Quan(sp) Scott is the only skill guy they have that is scary & the OL which had been the teams strength for years was their achilles heel last year - and there is no real reason to expect a 180 there this year. I understand the optimism about Cosh but 1- he's a FR, 2 - taking it from a school (UD) that has had a lot of transfer QB's - even guys like Flacco & Devlin were only able to so so much in their 1st year without talent around them & 3- JMU under MM has never been a passing offense, it's always been run 1st.

ODU should make some noise this year - I'd expect they'd win at least 3 league games.
JMU has plenty of athletes on offense including D Scott.

As far as the o-line, 2 of those starters who were pressed into action due to losing 2 seniors for the season in Aug will go from being rFr with zero starting experience to another year in the weight room and rSo with a yr of starting experience, which likely means a huge improvement. Also had a 1st yr starting rSo last season who will be a rJr with a yr starting experience. Center Babington who was 3rd team All CAA will be a 3rd yr starting rSr and likely a pre season All CAA. The o-line will be better at 4 of 5 positions and will be better, maybe much better, than last season.

As far as QB it could be Cosh, it could be Edwards, or could be Thorpe, the 09' CAA rookie of the year.

Two 3 point losses, two 7 point, and a 14 point. Heck, the offense which returns 8 starters, could show zero improvement, and with the defense (as of now 10 starters, doz from the last 2 seasons) back even being better than it was last yr, maybe the best ever, would likely be enough to get JMU in the playoffs. And as long as the offense even gets mediocre QB play the offense will be improved.

You do have us "beaten" (by far) in the convicted felon department though, so congrats on that.
Uh, how has JMU beaten UD by far in the "CONVICTED felon dept" I assume UD has zero? JMU has one who's conviction was set aside. 1-0 is beating you "by far" as you claim? Whatever.

From the reports out of H-Burg from this weekend, it doesn't sound like Edwards will be around.

Only message board speculation that Edwards was involved. Now even IF he was, and IF he's charged, and IF he's found guilty of a misdemeanor or less, he'll likely be back.

You need to quit spending so much time trollling JMU's board on the CAA Zone.

The "M" is for Magistrates. The "J" is for Judges.

And DJ, wtf are you digging up articles from five years ago for? That's ancient history. We had a player (Siddiq Haynes) win the all around good guy of the universe (or something like that) award and he's large and black. We have our shit straight these days!

If nothing else, this thread has proven conclusively that the entire student bodies of JMU, UD, UM & ASU are living the thug lifestyle.

Holla.

I have no idea what that means but thought it would sound good.

AD: Football player being investigated in assault case

"One member of the JMU football team is being investigated for alleged involvement in an assault on Jan. 21 that sent four to the hospital and wounded several others, according to JMU's Athletics Department......"

So much for all this sensationalist talk of their being 8 or 15 or whatever players involved...

It would have been in JMU's best interest if Mickey "Mouth" Matthews would have left for another job. JMU is looking to increase the visibility of their program......this is NOT the way to do it. Matthews is a "rogue" coach......and not very professional IMO. They need some new blood at the top to become the "face" of JMU football going into the future. :thumb:

Yep, looking to increase the visibility of the program. Becoming the 2nd I-AA to ever knock off a ranked I-A and building a 62 million stadium expansion are FAR more visible than the 2 fights. Rogue my ass  The only way there is going to be any new blood at the top would be if a couple more of these incidents happen again on top of not making the playoffs next season, or just another couple of seasons without making the playoffs. I don't think either will be the case.

Plus, if Mickey left JMU, who would the rest of the CAA pick on?

Not that this is any better, but if you're going to be relying on MAB tweets, there were two after that:

# MikeABarber

Police seized items including phones, laptops, and clothing from JMU's Corey Davis, Jace Edwards, Wyatt Johnson & Anthony McDaniel.

# Mike Barber

To clarify, Harrisonburg police searched rooms belonging to six JMU freshmen football players, but did not seize items from all of them.

And I said this when the issue with the Rose brothers came up, but even if this is just one person on the football team, it's unacceptable. Like it or not, you're a football player at a school that's trying to have 25,000 people come watch you play. You are under a higher level of scrutiny. Don't go beating the holy hell out of people because they won't let you in their party or talked bad about your momma. In fact, don't touch them. Ask Kevin Grayson about the advisability of getting a quick punch in.
