Blasphemer! Nothing is better than a TS egg roll at two in the morning (other than a JJ's special from the Ox  )
Nothing shows how badly alcohol affects you in the area of the taste buds than the Oxford JJ's does. A friend and I were just talking about that last week. Back in the 90's we always ended up there and thought it was great until we got up early one Saturday to go hit the Drummond rodeo and hit the Ox on the way out of town for breakfast @ 8a. I've never had the urge to go back for breakfast except that I took Cleets there once a couple of years ago. It ain't nearly as special as it seems at 2a.

It's still a landmark and it has to be experienced though.

No doubt man. I can manage a burger there when sober, but the JJ's is definitely for consumption only when shit-faced.

I don't go out to bars often. Sometimes I will meet up with some friends after work for a beer, but it's a pretty rare event. Being the old married guy with the young kids means I usually go home right after work for dinner.

Downtown was not a place I visited at all until I started working down here 5 years ago. Shit last year included my first time in the Mo Club. Year before was first time in the Old Post.

But seriously, given the choice of hanging at home or going out to a crowded bar, I would prefer home. I would much rather go out on a weeknight when the bars aren't so busy, but most people prefer the weekends.

I never said you hadn't experienced it between the hours that encompass a weekend.

Shit, go whenever it suits ya. It's a nice little town, you ought to try it out.

I just meant it makes it hard to go out unless I go solo. Most my friends will only do such things on weekends.

What really matters here is that the thread was placed back on track and then rejacked.

America's team is whoever the cinderella team du jour is, and that's not a bad thing.

I still maintain that, when it comes to Dallas, America's team has evolved from what it was at the beginning to just their nickname. Not something to be passed to who is most popular, just their nickname. Like how Packer fans are Cheeseheads and just because some other place started producing more cheese or something we wouldn't call their fans Cheeseheads. It would always be the Packer fans.
Things change all the time so nothing is locked in stone. The Cowboys weren't America's Team when the nickname was floated out there (notice there was plenty of resistance to the name from the get go) and they aren't that today. Just hoping it sticks doesn't actually make it stick. I'm sure cowboy fans may feel differently, but there are plenty of other people who get a say in the matter and most American's don't think of the cowboys as "their" team. If I say "period" now does that make my point even stronger??

The sad story of how they got the nickname proves it too...

Back in the 70's Ed Sabol's NFL Films did Super Bowl Highlight Film for each SB... and in so doing came up with a subtitle, usually in reference to the winning team (the one from the first bronco's victory was "this one's for John") in the case of this particular SB... they didn't really have a tag line that fit... so somebody at a production meeting tossed out the very generic "America's Team" and like most shitty working titles... it stuck.

Fox is the worst at using it. Still hear it all the time about Dallas but the Packers and Steelers have the largest true fans following. Doesn't matter where they play, the stadium is at least 25% green/gold or black/gold and if they are playing at a crappy team, it is at least 50%

That is exactly my point, it's not about who American's think of as "their" team. It's just a nickname that stuck to them. I don't know why that is hard to understand.

I'm glad you can focus on the important parts though. Mentioning "period" twice now. Sorry to excite you so much by saying it. Didn't realize how much that bothered you.

If you want to focus on popularity though here is some info on that. I know this is from wikipedia but you can follow the individual sources from there if you want.

The popularity of the Cowboys as America's Team has been supported somewhat by such NFL records as "Team with Most Consecutive Sold Out Games", a streak of 160 home and away games (including playoffs) that began on December 23, 1990, at Philadelphia's Veterans Stadium and came to an end on December 24, 1999, in a Christmas Eve game against the New Orleans Saints in the Louisiana Super Dome.[10] Other examples are the NFL games featuring the Cowboys that result in record-breaking ratings at the time of broadcast, such as 7 of the 8 Super Bowl games featuring the Cowboys and the NFC Championship Game between the Cowboys and 49ers, the only non-Super Bowl NFL game to be ranked in the Top 45 Primetime Telecasts of All Time.[11]

Also, period.
