OK, I listen to several radio programs during the day, both left and right lening programs, but nothing seems to be pointing towards peace in the mid-east.


I remember doing a social studies report on Sadat's asassination back in '80-ish in 5th grade. Shocking that it has been 30 years now that Mubarack is now 30years in power. I remember asking my mom what will happen if the new Egypt leader doesn't believe in what the old leader did. I did the same thing ine '88 when Reagan was a lame duck, being 10-18 during '80-'88 was quite a time. My dad, a secret service agent, even protected Sadat in the late 70's.

Anyways, if eGYPT FALLS, WW3 is about to break out.

You guys talk about sheople, the Egyptian common people getting rilied up are being rilied into a bad place.

If the Muslim Brotherhood takes over, yeah, things will get hairy. If a more moderate, secular group takes over, I don't see it being a big deal. Israel will probably have a shit-fit either way, though.

it's funny - the American press seem hell-bent on turning this in to Tehran 79... but in listening to the BBC and watching Al Jazeera English (and assuming they aren't getting the whole story either...) it appears that the crowd is significantly more secular than our press would have you believe...

or it could be that this white house is handling the situation as it should... two years ago in iran any show of outward support from the US would have been used by the regime as "proof" the American's were behind the opposition and used it to crush the protesters more quickly... in this case, most of the protesters are well aware of our past support for Mubarak - and what it looks like the White House is trying to show support for their desire to be heard by their government... not a bad idea if these people are likely to be in charge of their own government soon - work to ensure that the easiest path to power won't be bashing America

Interesting times. While I also believe the movement is a more secular, non-radical uprising, I can’t help but think the radical’s will find a way to hijack it and claim power one way or another.

Egypt has been more tolerant of other religions for the last 2,000 years than any other country/area on earth. 20% of the population is Christian. They're way more tolerant than our supposed good friends the Saudi's have ever been.

They've been mad as hell for a long time and aren't going to take it anymore. The Muslim Brotherhood has said they want Islam to have a role in a possible new government, but they're a minority.

Here's an example of how Christians and Muslims are co-existing better in Egpyt than they do in America

Admiral Mullen, the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, has been heaping praise on the Egyptian military for its actions so far during this "crisis"...or the lack of action, better put...

The Egyptian military is key in this whole thing...it is playing a very strong hand, but doing it behind the scene...not getting involved in quelling protests...going even to the point of public statements that it will not get involved in stopping the protests...

And the people of Egypt have responded positively to the presence of the military as it protects cultural facilities, etc...

Egypt is considerably more moderate than many other Muslim states in the area. Plus, Egyptians are, on the whole, more cosmopolitan than your average Arab/North Africans. I suspect we may well see a less friendly regime emerge in Egypt, but I think it will be FAR from what the doom and gloomers are predicting. Egyptians have way too much to lose if they give over to a theocratic regime. plus, as was said earlier, the Egyptian military is largely secular and will not give up the ghost that easily.

The problem is there is no clear leader of this revolution.

The crowd causing the uprising is definitely secular. But we have no idea whether they are the majority.

In international politics, the group which deposes the tyrant is always the group which replaces him.

that happened - but the response was several dozen young people standing guard at the museum - later joined by the army... today, they were firebombed...
