Some of his son's anecdotes were really interesting; how warm and generous and kind he was, yet had no close friends.

It's nice to see somebody else watched it. Did you see it as a pretty fair representation? I'd be curious to see that fence sitter Gannon's take. :thumb:

Didn't see it - I don't get HBO. Maybe will get a chance to see it when it's more available. Although I'm behind in my historical documentaries/mini series. Still haven't seen the second season of Rome nor the John Adams one.

Oh, and it's not fence sitting - that's something partisans like you came up with when you think you have to be all or nothing for one party. For the growing majority of Americans like myself, we have a whole yard in between your extreme and the GOP extreme. Plenty of room for the best ideas from both parties to coexist (while filtering out the bad from both). You're welcome to stop over - we don't even put up fences like you guys do! :thumb:

Relax G, I was kidding and sincere that I'm interested in you opinion.

I'm quite content to sit on the fence on most issues. You thinking I'm partisan is like TTBF believing there's no such thing as an independent. Quit being such a conk apologist.

Sorry, almost need a scorecard to keep you guys separate.

As for my opinion, though, I think it's still a bit early to be drawing good historical views on Reagan's Presidency - still a lot of people around who would like to bend that history in their favor (good or bad) for it to be considered unbiased. But I do look forward to watching it when I can get it.

I'm every bit as impartial as I think. I think you guys are just hurt that I don't choose to be in your party and yes, you guys do have issues with people that decide, issue by issue, where they stand. All you have to do is read a few of your posts and it becomes quite clear. If I'm partial, then by all means, it should be easy to prove it based on what I've written. So go ahead, prove it. :coffee:

I'd say it was fair; bashing Reagan for the difference between his rhetoric about small government and reducing spending and his failure to achieve either is nothing new. I came away with a better understanding of why he was like he was. In some ways his life was really sad.

I'd bet my house that Sinatra boned Nancy though.

It's really well made. You need to watch it.

Ballet dancing is a little too light in the loafers or, whatever they wear, for the party of family values/latent homosexuality to trust a son. :thumb:

Edit: Does the above statement make me a partisan hack Gannon?

Of course Ron Jr. is qualified to talk about family life and relationships. The ballet dancing does not bother me in the least. Outside of those two arenas, however, he is way over his head.

I don't suppose Tip O'Neill and Dan Rostenkowski had anything to do with that.

Ron Jr. is a liberal talk radio show host. That doesn't make him right in his politics nor do I expect you to agree with him. But the research he has to do for his show alone, coupled with the fact that he probably had the closest relationship to his father of all the Reagan children makes him way less over his head than someone like who I assume hasn't even watched the documentary. If you had, you would realize his comments about his father were almost exclusively humanizing and had very little to do with their dissagreements over politics.

Absolutely they did. Another interesting thing about ol' Ronnie - for all his ideological blather about guvmint being the problem and the necessity of reduced spending, he knew when it was time to cut a deal for what he could get and move on.

The program left me feeling that Reagan actually paid a pretty high price, family-wise, for his Presidency.

A big emphasis was put on deficit spending and attempting to discredit Laffer, which in the face of current events is laughable. Other than that, I really enjoyed a lot of the old videos. I also thought Iran Contra was handled MOL fairly.

Ideology aside, it was pretty well done and entertaining.

Ha! Take that, conk naysayers who haven't watched it yet.

Now, since American taxpayers and corporations paid less in taxes last year than at any time in the past 50 years, we can all crack a beer and wait for Arthur Laffer's magic curve to take effect and produce so much revenue that the deficit will be paid down in no time.
