I did not make the claim that "Republicans are making inroads with Hispanic voters" nationwide, you did. As you already know, Republicans typically earn about a 40-60 split.

Yes, the election of Hispanic non-Cuban Republicans in 2010 was a very significant development:
Gov Susana Martinez (NM)
Lt Gov John Sanchez (NM)
Gov Brian Sandoval (NV)
Rep. Francisco Canseco (TX-23) (R)
Rep. Bill Flores (TX-17) (R)
Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler (WA-3) (R)
Rep. Raúl Labrador (ID-1) (R)
Rep. Devin Nunes (CA-21) (R)

Elected Republican Puerto Rican officials are also noteworthy:
Gov Luis Fortuño
Speaker of the House Jennifer González
President of the Senate Thomas Rivera Schatz

As an American I am proud of our Republican Hispanics, including the Cubans. I am ashamed of some of the Dem Hispanics, like NJ Senator Menendez and former NM Governor Richardson. In Richardson's case, it is because of his corruption and giving driver's licenses to illegals, not so much his rhetoric or analysis, which can often be uplifting and/or accurate.

Republicans HAVE made inroads - and have elected a number of people... however, their general performance, especially when they don't have a Latino on the ballot has gotten MUCH worse in the last 4-5 years... 1070 and the blowback from it has seriously hurt the GOP in that area. I have no doubts that there places where the GOP, at the local and regional level will have success, especially when they have a Latino on the ballot... but the enmity shown by the GOP base to Latino's in general is not likely to help, and the provocative legislation is risking long-term and national alienation of an entire group of people... there's a reason Bush pushed for comprehensive immigration reform - it was a long-term political calculation.
