Re: FCS teams in the top scoring ranks
At SDSU we live and die by the 3 and put up a lot of points because of it. We are #3 in the nation in 3 point % at 42.2% and #10 in Points/Game at 81.6/game.
BTW, tonights game had one of the best dunks in Frost Arena history as Dale Moss put down a filthy dunk on IUPUI on an inbounds alley oop. He is considering using his 5th year of eligibility to play football for SDSU this coming season. He was a better football player than basketball player in high school here in SD.

Frost arena...well...I'll keep that to my self
I'm going to be honest here. Play some good freaking teams, not even great teams but good teams, and you'll see how quickly running a high scoring offense will get you in trouble when you aren't the "superior team"
The way to beat teams that are "athletically superior" to you is to play a slower methodical defensive game. Learn to play defense for 35 seconds and then go play offense for 32 seconds and you will be damn tough to beat.

Ah, I'm going to love this.
UNI shot 17% during the second half of the Iowa game. Iowa didn't beat UNI, UNI did.
Here is a score you will like
UNI 69, #1 Kansas 67
Had UNI tried to play at Kansas's pace we would have been fucked. We made them play our pace.

So what you're saying is, by being terrible offensively you didn't win the game?clenz wrote:Ah, I'm going to love this.

Stop being NDSU clenz and living in the past. That was last season, this is this season. Wanna live in the past NDSU like? Here is a record you will like.
SDSU has an all time record against UNI of 52-34.

You want to live this year?
SDSU is 13-9 and is a terrible conference. You're SOS rank is 326, there is no way you shouldn't have a one or two loss record.
UNI is 18-8 solidly in 3rd place, with a shot to win a third straight conference title...in a conference miles a head of the Summit...

Re: FCS teams in the top scoring ranks
Actually our SOS is 237, you are probably referring to usd. I want to live this year. We are a really good offense team that ranks well against the major universities in this country. That is all I ever wanted to accomplish here. Thats what this thread was started for, and thats what I came here to comment on. Then you came and started up about our arena, on how offense isn't important, but the reason you lost to Iowa was because you were terrible offensively, how you beat Kansas last year, and how you are blessed to be in the MVC. If you think we don't know that the Summit League isn't the most powerful conference and wouldn't jump immediately at the chance to be in the MVC, then you are extremely naive. I would say our goal at SDSU right now is the be an all sports member of the MVC, but we are dealing with what we have right now. I would love to be in the MVC but that isn't this year, so I'm going to discuss how we are good statistically offense team that is in the Summit League.clenz wrote:You want to live this year?

Re: FCS teams in the top scoring ranks
My point in getting in this thread was that offense doesn't win anything in basketball. You need to outscore your opponent but there is a reason the best teams in the nation, year in and year out, have great defenses and decent or good offense.

Re: FCS teams in the top scoring ranks
Agreed, the best teams have great defenses and a decent to good offense. There have been games this year that show that having a great defense without the offense is worse that having only offense. Look at the Texas A&M vs. Texas game. A&M played defense great enough to win, but only put up 49 points to Texas' 69. Look at your game against Iowa. Iowa is not exactly a Big Ten power, and like you said you only shot 17% in the second half and 27% for the game, but you held Iowa to 28% for the first half and 40% for the game, only allowing 51 points, good enough to win any other night. You need one with the other. Offense doesn't win games, but it quickly loses them.clenz wrote:My point in getting in this thread was that offense doesn't win anything in basketball. I never said a good offense wasn't needed.
I'm more impressed with teams that put up 60-65 but only give up 55-60 a game than I am with teams that score 70+ but give up 65-70+.

It's been a hell of a month for me, and I'm about to bust out Pvt. Pyle for a while and put clenzie to bed for a couple days.bandl wrote:Look at clenzie, busting out the serious threats, no holds barred!!!!!clenz wrote:You want to live this year?

It is very impressive, I completely agree, that's just not our game this season, we like to get out and run and score.clenz wrote:I'm more impressed with teams that put up 60-65 but only give up 55-60 a game than I am with teams that score 70+ but give up 65-70+.
Finally, here is the 1 minute series of events with audio including the dunk and a 3 pointer that made Frost go crazy. It was exciting to say the least. Enjoy.
