Their democracy? That is still yet to be determined.
Just glad power was handed to the military. There is still a long journey ahead for the Egyptians.

It's funny to see all these people that think that there is now a huge success and the mission is accomplished in Egypt. One of my most liberal friends posted on facebook "Way to go Egypt, your mission is accomplished". I reminded her of Bush's mission accomplished and how often she uses that as "ammo". I got told to fuck off.

Now the fun/chaos begins. The real question is will the next 12-24 months be any better or far worse than what it is today in Egypt??

From the get go I was certainly for people being able to determine their lot in life, so kudos to the Egyptians for being able to toss aside the restrictive regime they had.

However, victory is only fleeting - it's kinda like that Farside cartoon where the goldfish are all assembled on the table outside of their bowl while inside the bowl the little decorative house is on fire - the one goldfish says "well, the good news is we all got out safely. Of course, now we're equally screwed...". The Egyptians have their freedom from a represive regime. But they're going to still have severe economic stagnation and little hope for anything different in the years ahead. Congrats to the Egyptians - now the hard work starts.

I just saw on CNN where the protestors were being sustained the last few days by Kentucky Fried Chicken delivered to the main square there, whatever it's called.

Egyptians seeking liberty oust dictator without US military action, oil prices falling, economy recovering, unemployment rates falling, no double dip on the horizon, damn!

Lots of disappointment out there, plenty to go around.

Damn!

The people of Egypt have a long way to go before they "win their democracy." Let's hope they make it.

The Egyptian military is a revered institution - the leadership of their military values that... moreover the $1.5 billion in US aid that would stop if the military refused to go through with it seems like a powerful motivator as well...

Good points. With the military in charge for a while, I am hopeful that things have a better chance to work out. Let's see.

of course, a neocon could argue (not that I would, per se) that because of American guns the ball started to roll in terms of democracy in the Middle East. First Iraq, and it's still rolling from there. Not exactly the smoothest and smartest way to get the ball rolling, but a way nonetheless.

So it really is the second coming of Carter...I thought folks were joking

Interesting that these events are taking place the same week as Reagan’s 100th birthday. A great reminder of who saved America & the world from Carter’s incompetence. will be interesting to see if anyone can save us from Obama

After the invasion of Iraq, Libya folded like a cheap tent.
