I share your concerns about the Patriot Act and for the future of the Fourth amendment, but you hold Cheney up to a higher standard that that to which you hold your domestic heroes, and to a ridiculously higher standard than the rest of the world.

However,
1. Some emergency actions were probably necessary post 9/11, and
2. Really, how many innocent American citizens have been harmed in the past 9 1/2 years?

I stand by my proposition. Vice president Cheney is your honorable political opponent, not your enemy. I don't like it that he avoided service any more than you do and I would have preferred otherwise. But let's consider additional facts. In his own household, he has a loving, supportive and open family relationship with his lesbian daughter. He was a superb SecDef, and under his tenure as VP, the administration captured Sadam Hussein and a whole series of "#2" Al Qaeida operatives. He gave a superb political speech in China in 2004, which was censured by the Chinese. It was a better speech than any foreign policy speech given by Obama.

If Cheney was so bad, why are most the Bush administration's policies still followed by the Obama administration - including the hated Patriot Act?
