Key Iraqi: Proud my lies about WMD were used to start War
An Iraqi man whose testimony the United States used as a key evidence to build a case for war in Iraq says he is proud that he lied about his country developing mobile biological warfare labs.
The Guardian newspaper published an interview Wednesday with Rafid Ahmed Alwan al-Janabi, who has been identified as the informer called "Curveball," whose claims about weapon labs formed part of then-U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell's speech to the U.N. Security Council in 2003, shortly before the war began.
The Guardian quoted al-Janabi as saying: "I had the chance to fabricate something to topple the regime. I and my sons are proud of that."
Although some intelligence agents were skeptical of Curveball's story, the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee reported in 2004 that the Central Intelligence Agency "withheld important information about Curveball's reliability" from analysts dealing with the case.

Seriously, who can blame the guy?
Iraq was a shvthole ruled by an iron fisted minority who routinely killed thousands, sometimes tens of thousands, each year in order to keep himself in power. The guy saw an opportunity for change…and he lied. Nothing different from what folks do in this country.
Cripes, look at how the Libs and the media consistently make up lies to discredit their opponents….the ends justify the means. Some Libs even wanted Bush dead! Imagine what a Libs with guts would do to get rid of a dictator?
Oddly enough, the Libs would pat themselves on the back if they eliminated a dictator. But since a Republican got rid of one…oh, then that must be a bad thing.
Oh, and for those who are celebrating the revolutions in the Arab world…the story of the quack who set himself on fire was quickly morphed into a story about an unemployed college graduate…an image that resonated deeply with those who were in similar situations…and it rallied the populace into a frenzy that toppled governments.
Ooops…but that image was not true.
Oh well, we’ll just have to live without another couple of crackpots in charge.

Agree. Not to mention the Teabaggers claiming Obama is a muslim born in Kenya or Beck claiming Muslim Brotherhood + Communists + Code Pink have united to cause the overthrow of Mubarek in Egypt. It's amazing this doesn't happen more often quite frankly...Cluck U wrote:Seriously, who can blame the guy?

I thought you were calling bs on me and I was ready to go hit the youtube clips up.
Neither side like to deal in real truth cuz it just isn't nearly as dramatic if that happens.

C'mon, if you are going to go after the Right, you should focus on their fear that Lady Gaga is going to disrupt the moral fiber of western society. After she takes down western civilization, the Muslims will simply behead her and all of her followers.Appaholic wrote:Agree. 1) If they had invaded Iraq without equal support from our allies, while cutting taxes to pay for it, after we were attacked by an unrelated terrorist group based in Afghanistan who plotted their operations in Pakistan, Spain and Germany - they would have been wrong too.ASUG8 wrote:http://www.snopes.com/politics/war/wmdquotes.asp" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Ursus A. You are looking to greatly expand what I said. Since that's not what I was saying and I agree that they very well may have followed the erroneous info. down the wrong path in a similar time and situation we don't have an argument here.kalm wrote:1) If they had invaded Iraq without equal support from our allies, while cutting taxes to pay for it, after we were attacked by an unrelated terrorist group based in Afghanistan who plotted their operations in Pakistan, Spain and Germany - they would have been wrong too.ASUG8 wrote:

I'm not completely following what you say here but it's your "both sides hate dealing with truth" line that got me. Yes both sides spoke to it, but truth be told, only one side acted on it. But yes, you're correct that had 9/11 and curveball occurred under Clinton/Gores watch, perhaps we would have invaded Iraq in the late 90's. I'll admit that.Ursus A. Yes, that was it. I ain't even saying it would have happened like that but there is a good chance it would have. Big fucking mistake and we fell for it. Hell most of America at the time fell for it hook, line, and sinker as well.kalm wrote:I'm not completely following what you say here but it's your "both sides hate dealing with truth" line that got me.
