House overthrows Obama's Czars

Post by FargoBison »

The House voted Thursday to dethrone nine White House “czars.”

Republicans successfully added an amendment to the continuing resolution that would leave President Barack Obama’s senior advisers on policy issues including health care, energy and others out of a job.

The vote was 249-179.

Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) offered the amendment that blocks funding for various policy advisers to combat what he called “a very disturbing proliferation of czars” under Obama.

“These unappointed, unaccountable people who are literally running a shadow government, heading up these little fiefdoms that nobody can really seem to identify where they are or what they’re doing,” Scalise said Thursday. “But we do know that they’re wielding vast amounts of power.”

So both have way too many, and Obama has a few more. Is there a point here?

Hence why so many of those Republicans lost their jobs in '06 and '08. It's a new day and there are plenty of new GOP'ers in there now to start to offset the leftovers from both parties who have failed over the past few years.

Republicans lost their jobs in '06 and '08 over "czars"?

Well, more generally, the inability to govern efficiently and effectively. The "czars" and the inefficiency and ineffiectiveness that they were just one small piece of is what rightfully did the GOP in in the middle part of the last decade.

I agree - that's what I meant by not being able to govern efficiently - too much wasteful spending.

So Republicans lost control of Congress because of wasteful spending? :?

Pretty sure exit polls will confirm that Iraq was the #1 issue for voters in 2006... and led to Republicans losing both houses of Congress.

Special advisors to the President have been ridiculous since the Nixon days.

Anyone who makes a partisan issue out of it is also ridiculous.

@brokebackjon... are you hopeful or otherwise encouraged that the Senate might not approve of this move by the House? I think you might be wrong, since even Senate and House Democrats have criticized Obama over the czars. Plus, there will be at least 5 Democrat senators who will be looking to stay in office in the next election and they are going to become VERY centrist over the next couple years. Watch your heroes display their adherence to their principles, Bubba.

I can't think of any spending more wasteful than the unnecessary debacle of Iraq.
