Concealed Carry Reciprocity Bill Introduced

Post by Col Hogan »

A bipartisan sponsored bill (HR 822) has been introduced into the House that will mandate that any state that issues a concealed carry weapons permit must recognize a permit issued by another state...

Under the legislation was introduced by Rep. Cliff Stearns (R-FL) and co-sponsored by Rep. Heath Shuler (D-NC)

The legislation would not change any state gun laws...for example, if one state bans carrying a concealed weapon in a bank...and you have a license in a state where that is permitted...you must follow the laws of the state you are in...

The bill simply makes the reciprocity easier to clear...a stroke of genius by two Members of the House...

Like a drivers license, I'm for states rights...the states an determine how the license is issued, but all states must accept the license...

NY can ban those under 18 from getting a drivers license...but must accept a 16 years olds license issued in Virginia...

In Virginia, those under 18 cannot be out after 11 driving (with work exceptions)...if your state does not have such a ban, that's your states rights...but if that under 18 year old from your state comes to visit Virginia, our ban applies to you...

That, my friend, is states rights...

That's all this legislation asks for...

The House here has backed a bill that would allow people to carry concealed without a permit in urban areas. You already can in rural areas in Montana.

I guess that wouldn't help Montanans going to other states because they wouldn't have a permit so they couldn't carry anywhere else.

A great idea so long as my state doesn't have to accept people with permits from states that require just showing up with paperwork to get a permit and w/o showing any proficiency with said weapon.

As would the 1.5 million Americans who are victims of a violent crime each year.

Not everyone is a 6'8" genetic freak like you, D. CCW rights level the playing field. Think of a society where every (non-mentally deranged) person (without a criminal background) around you has the ability to end your life in a matter of seconds...an ability you cannot defeat with your posturing or intimidation. Kinda scary for the bullies, rapists and violent criminals, huh?

For the rest of America, it creates a safe, more civil society.

Good point (and remember that the next time you dismiss the driver's licence analogy :)

I would be more comfortable with this bill if there were national CCW Permit standards - ie. training/testing/renewals like there are for drivers licences.

There are national standards for drivers licenses? I took a written and behind the wheel test when I was 16. In the ensuing 30 some odd years the only thing I've done is to have my picture retaken once every 5-10 years or so. Is that the kind of standard you're referring to? Seems kinda weak compared to what you might want to have for a gun license, IMO.

As a Certified Nut-Ball Left Wing Liberal Communist...
I still can't understand why anybody has issues with guns in this country - that horse got out of the barn about 230 years ago...

After hearing all the arguments and both sides perspectives - I still say - If I'm at a public place and I've got guys like T-Man and Colonel packing as well as some crooks and criminals packing... how am I not "more safe" than I would be if just the criminal had guns

Seriously - maybe I'm missing something
But I want a logical make sense path for regular honest citizens to have all the guns they want
that way I don't need to have one and I know T-man and Colonel (if'n a fire fight does break out) have me covered

If that scenario is all your worried about, you would more than likely be dead before anyone realized what was going on.
I am all for people being able to own as may weapons as they can afford, but to think you are safer because more people are carrying is asinine.

Let me ask you something...so here you are in this huge crowd of people for whatever reason. Now all of a sudden you hear gunfire and everyone whips out their weapon. Since the vast majority of people never saw the initial suspect fire but now everyone has a gun out Who are you going to shoot? Are the individuals named above trained in the art of identifying bad guys? When did they last run through this scenario? When was the last time they went to the range?
Now lets forget about them and add in the fact the the avg citizen is just some dirtball who might have fired fifty rounds through his weapon in the last five years. They just want to shoot someone, anyone. Add in the fact that most couldn't hit the broad side of a barn a good day. Throw in mass amounts of adrenalin pumping through their bodies and all you have now is mass murder.
You might feel safer, but I absolutely do not.

Totally agree Cleetsy. It's also weird to me that it is always the left leaning people that want to control what everybody else does. I don't trust the criminal element and would like the good people to have an equal playing surface. The left leaners don't trust their fellow man to be able to have the correct training and responsibility to do the right thing in a bad situation. I'm willing to trust them over the criminal being the only one with a gun much like you.

JFC, look at the silly fucking story PG made up. Hey your in a crowd, someone starts shooting, all the good people in the crowd pull their weapons and start shooting at each other.

That's some Benny Hill-esque comedy right there.

I was hoping somebody would call PG on that made for Hollywood story he made up.

BTW if that ever did happen   I wouldnt pull my gun, I would get me and my family to my vehicle ASAP and leave. The only time you ever pull your weapon is to pull the trigger. You dont pull it for show and intimidation. But you would know that if you ever completed a CWP class.

Totally agree that the right is fucked as all get out on that shit. I thought I said it usually the left leaning induviduals that don't want to trust to their fellow man...lessen their freedoms so to speak. That goes completely against the mantra. I was replying to you knowing that you go that way and didn't include you in that mix. You are not a rugged individual but you do make up your own mind on each issue instead of going along with what the party stands for.
