FAMU won't join the SWAC. When the LB was announced as a potential season ending bowl for the MEAC & SWAC champs, FAMU was the first and loudest to threaten to leave if the MEAC went to a system where they would miss out on the playoffs. No way they would join a conference that doesn't participate in the playoffs at all.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:FAMU?Fresno St. Alum wrote:Maybe this is why Tennessee St. was invited to join the SWAC last month. If they say no and JSU is kicked out, then I wonder if one of the 13 MEAC members would be invited.

Very sad that Jackson State, Walter Payton's alma mater, has gotten themselves into this mess.
I agree with previous posters that the MEAC and SWAC are among the weakest DI conferences, but they have players (Payton, McNair, Donald Driver) and I doooo love me some SWAC football! The 2006 Alcorn-Jackson State "Capitol City Classic" game was fantastic for all 45,000 fans, and went down to the last minute. The traditional HBCU battle of the bands was fantastic, too!

Well, they're 345/345...don't really have anywhere to go.

Yes, and they were going to move to FBS before they got slapped with a bunch of violations. I wonder if the NCAA did that to keep the black man down? Kinda convenient with the timing and all.superman7515 wrote:FAMU won't join the SWAC. Still about 10 years ago FAMU was the only name I ever heard about switching to the SWAC. Not that they would. I guess you could include Savannah St. now that they are MEAC. There was talk about if they would get a SWAC invite when they joined D-I after the MEAC rejected them.

I don't know what else to say, the team truly sucks so much so that winning 0 games is better than winning 4. I guess that speaks volumes for the "strength" of the SWAC.Fresno St. Alum wrote:What I don't get is how you're below 0-28 Centenary that will be D-III next year.tampajag wrote: They could make some bonus spots or use negative numbers or something

Re: Jackson St could face loss of NCAA membership
The loss of their membership would obviously be a crippling blow to this once proud conference somebody isn't making sure these kids are taking care of business in the classroom. And when it comes to a playoff appearance that was ruled out a full decade ago by the current commissioner. The last time the SWAC was in the FCS playoffs was '00 again too bad because of the re-emergence of ex-doormat Prairie View this would be a perfect time to see how far they have come as a program and to play against non-conference teams to see if their newly acquired status as a 1-AA powerhouse is legit.
