let me walk you though how he gets buried in the primary:

he's pro-choice, pro-gun control, weak on illegal immigration and in favor of the Ground Zero Mosque.

he also backed a bunch of RINO's in 2010...

he's got momentum right now because he's belligerent, loud mouthed, and on tv... it's not built to last.

So am I, so what, who isn't and so am I.

I'd still vote for him over any limp dick put up by the Obamaites. :coffee: :coffee:

Again, your emotions seem to color your analysis - pure political folly...

He did what he had to do to win the Governorship in deep blue New Jersey from Corzine (speaking of assholes), and then proceeded to very publicly smack around the unions in ramming through his budget. Pure GOP political gold. Subsequently he's become very popular in tea party circles on the financial issues alone - you're putting waaaay too much emphasis on the social issues. That whole embracing guns and religion thing...

Frankly, unless Newt or Palin make a serious run, his only current challengers would be Mitt, Huck, or Jindal. He'd do just fine against any of them in the primary.

In the general, if the economy is still in the dumps then Obama will be anchored by the deficit and lose big. And if the economy's recovering then Christie will sit this one out.

Sometimes you have to take a chance and roll the dice. I knew what we'd get from McCain, and it wasn't good. Obama was necessary at the time and, with the Dems causing their own ruin in '10, Obama's in a good spot now to get some things done.

I have my fingers crossed, but put me in the doubter column.

Taking a quick glance at the guy, it doesn't look like he's built to last, either

Seriously, when was the last time we elected a president with a front-butt? Taft? It's all his goddamn fault, too. He gets stuck in one little White House bathtub, and the political aspirations of fatties everywhere get fucked for a century.

I wouldn't call it strictly a "beauty contest," but more like a "Which-of-these-assholes-is-least-ugly contest," and I think we can go back with it as far as you like. It certainly explains the political fates of Kerry, Carter, Dole, Mondale, and Nixon in particular.

And that's where Obama could get himself into big trouble. In his quest to drive green energy and push us that way, he may see the rising gas costs as a way to do that, and stand by and just let the price keep climbing. If people get the sense that he's not taking steps to help curb the price increase, and in fact hoping it goes higher, it could come back to haunt him.

get real.

while i agree with you that the price of gas could be a political liability for obama - the administrations energy policy has ZERO to do with regional instability in oil producing areas which is what is driving the spike in oil prices currently (that and speculators WORRIED about the turmoil moreso than any actual supply disruptions)

- re-reading your comments i see where you mention that perception and reality are not inherently the same thing here... touche'

I never said that he's had anything to do with making the prices rise. The question becomes whether there is anything he can do to help slow or stop the rise in prices (strategic oil reserves, drilling permits, etc), whether people perceive that those are options that could arrest the rise in prices (whether true or not), and whether he takes those actions. It comes down to whether people can credibly blame him down the road and whether it sticks. He didn't start the ball rolling - the question becomes how he reacts to the ball rolling.

still haven't heard a convincing case that any conk out there can beat palin in the primaries... not saying she's the overwhelming favorite - but there isn't anyone in the cupboard emerging who can both survive the primary, be sufficiently conservative, and still beat Obama at this point
