Sometimes you have to take a chance and roll the dice. I knew what we'd get from McCain, and it wasn't good. Obama was necessary at the time and, with the Dems causing their own ruin in '10, Obama's in a good spot now to get some things done.

If people get the sense that he's not taking steps to help curb the price increase, and in fact hoping it goes higher, it could come back to haunt him.

I never said that he's had anything to do with making the prices rise. The question becomes whether there is anything he can do to help slow or stop the rise in prices (strategic oil reserves, drilling permits, etc), whether people perceive that those are options that could arrest the rise in prices (whether true or not), and whether he takes those actions. It comes down to whether people can credibly blame him down the road and whether it sticks. He didn't start the ball rolling - the question becomes how he reacts to the ball rolling.
