Bye Bye Villanova?
Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
So it looks like Villanova is a done deal, and that the expansion to UCF/Houston could be closed off.
If that happens, I don't really see CUSA expanding to 13+ so it could really hurt App's dreams of CUSA.

eh - you get used to it - being one of only a few sane men in the loony bin that is our fans... you get used to being attacked for reminding them that NDSU is not, and will never be Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma or Ohio State...SloStang wrote:Sounds like you are a little intolerant of others views and respond with insults and name calling.JBB wrote:Fn idiot TTB. NDSU is in a fast growing market and is a fast growing university. Expect enrollments of 20,000 within the next 10 years.
Unfortunately the FFD is not going to be adequate for any FBS move if the opportunity should present itself. Its just not big enough. Remember a large part of an FBS move would be the OOC home games. Its very likely we could see Minnesota, Iowa state and the Kansas schools up here. You will need 30,000 for that. FBS would also increase our overall attendance just like the move to FCS did.
Wyoming has a great set-up. That would be a perfect future for NDSU.
As far as paying for it? The Dome Authority has kept its powder dry by staying out of the basketball arena. I think NDSU has a long term plan for a new outdoor stadium and converting the FFD for NDSU hockey.
I have no idea how any of this relates to Nova. I dont think they have the best stadium situation and like some others I am curious what the big deal is for them.

We'll live - we lost a much bigger rival when Temple dropped us back in the 80's and UD football moved along just fine. Sure it sucks not to get to play nova anymore, but again, we went through that previously when they dropped football the first time. Never fear, UD football will always have a place to play.mainejeff wrote:Much like Delaware better hope that the CAA stays around as a football entity?GannonFan wrote:They better hope the Big East stays around as a football entity.

Now back to Delaware. I have no doubt that UD will always have a place to play.......but will it be where UD fans want them to play???
This is looking like the future CAA as it stands right now:
Maine
UNH
Delaware
Towson
JMU
Richmond
ODU
W&M
Georgia State
9 teams......great! But lets not kid ourselves.......losing UMass and Villanova hurts this conference BIG TIME! Add to that, the likelihood that Maine and UNH will be looking at other options for their football programs and the specter of JMU, ODU. and GSU looking to grow their programs beyond the FCS......and things ain't all that rosy in Yeagerland.

Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
Eh, change is always in the future - it's not like these conferences are sitting around static for decades. Look how much the Yankee/A10/CAA has changed over the past 20 years. No one would've said losing nova 5-10 years ago would be a "big time" loss. Frankly, trading nova for ODU may very well be a positive - ODU will make money at this level (nova never did), they have a rabid following (nova had a handful of people), and they're in it for the long term. Sure, JMU and ODU could go somewhere (GSU I think is definitely going somewhere) but there's nothing imminent. Where would they go? In the meantime, we play football. One door closes, another one opens. UD fans have gone from loving to be an Independent, to being part of a basically New England conference, to being an up and down East Coast one, to now being a more Southern leaning one. And that's just over the past 20-30 years.mainejeff wrote:I try not to think about him.GannonFan wrote:

As long as there's football in Newark on most Saturdays and as long as UD has a chance for postseason play, we'll find a way to get by. No matter who is on the schedule.

Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
Dude, I probably have more posts on this thread than anyone else. Its not "hate" or jealousy from me. I'm just laying out their abysmal stadium situation, where I they'll make and lose more $, and what I think their chances of success are, which I don't think are good financially or competitively due to the reasons already mentioned. If their stadium is PPL I think their recruiting will only marginally improve. The BCS level recruits they try to get they will see their (expanded to 23k or whatever) stadium in the hood in Chester 17 miles from campus, and will also see the 40, 60, 80, 100+k stadiums of the other BCS schools recruiting them, and I see Nova having a hard time landing many 4-5 star recruits. I think they will year in, year out be a below avg Big East team, and near the bottom as far as the soon to be 68 BCS teams go, and rarely make even 6-6 to make a toilet bowl.Sly Fox wrote:First of all, is there a need for all of the hate in this thread? If Nova wants to try its hand at Big East football then by all means they should be given well wishes so the rest of us can move right along.
The jealousy-tinged vitriol being spewed at Villanova gives this thread a stink.
Is this a wise economic move for Villanova? Probably not.
Will any of the rest of us suffer the consequences if they fall on their faces? Probably not.
Live & let live.
I don't think they should move up, but I think they will. No hate from me, just calling it as I see it from a perspective of someone who doesn't have a dog in this hunt. It really doesn't effect JMU too much or me, other than I live less than 15 miles from their campus and won't have a close JMU game to go to every 2 years. I actually hope I am wrong and in the long run they do much better than I think they will, and wish them luck in their far from ideal situation.

What I don't get, is why the CAA is telling UNCC all or nothing w/ membership when the other A10 schools aren't being forced to do that. CAA is down to 9, take UNCC as long as they're FCS. I also think the CAA should have invited Fordham and Stony Brook for fb only already. That would make a nice 12. If the CAA still declines UNCC would the Big South give them a fb only invite? They should.

Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
It would be disappointing if or when they leave. The FCS would lose two elite programs. But that is a little overreaction Everyone will move on and I would wish them the best of luck at the next level.lakesbison wrote:Screw FCS if nova, Appy st are leaving and freakin sissy D2 schools like und,Uno are coming. I would love to see a home and home between NDSU and Nova or App St. before they take off (If they move up). Would be quality OOC games

Nobody has said that NDSU will be Alabama, Texas, OK or Ohio State. What is being said is that NDSU has the potential to take the program into the FBS. Your misconception about this issue is at odds with your lofty opinion of yourself.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:eh - you get used to it - being one of only a few sane men in the loony bin that is our fans... you get used to being attacked for reminding them that NDSU is not, and will never be Alabama, Texas, Oklahoma or Ohio State...

Because they already said they plan to jump and basically just put in their time in FCS and go hopefully within 5 years. Their AD doesn't want to "hurt" their chances of a basketball at-large by dropping to the "lesser" CAA, but wants all the benefits of playing in the top FCS football conference.Fresno St. Alum wrote:What I don't get, is why the CAA is telling UNCC all or nothing w/ membership when the other A10 schools aren't being forced to do that. Good on Yeager for growing a pair - why be the footstool to a start-up who has no plans on making a long-term commitment to the conference?

Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
Why's that? Two pretty good teams on the field, but their programs are nothing spectacular in terms of support, facilities, etc... Are either better/bigger than W&M or Richmond or even Towson? Those two aren't even close to UD, JMU, ODU, W&M... All things being equal, I'd rather they stay, especially Nova because of the rivalry with UD, but I won't lose any sleep over losing them. If JMU, W&M and ODU up and left, then I'd be worried.mainejeff wrote:But lets not kid ourselves.......losing UMass and Villanova hurts this conference BIG TIME!

Re: Bye Bye Villanova?
Yes they want to be FBS but they can't go unless they get an invite from a FBS conf. So if the SBC offers them a invite then they can go as a full member or if the MAC wants 15 or 16 for fb(UMass likely joining), they could get a fb only there. But it's not a sure thing.DukeJack wrote:Because they already said they plan to jump and basically just put in their time in FCS and go hopefully within 5 years.
