Nice win by your Wild, btw (not that beating up a team that's 1-15 since the break is much to write home about

Was at the game last night. Got to see Ovie's 600th career point which moved him into 3rd all-time Caps and Arnott's 900th career point. Was pretty cool that Arnott actually got the louder ovation.eagleskins wrote:Caps straight rolling.

I was offered tix last minute, but turned them down because I already had plans to entertain the parents at my house.
#300 was a pretty good sammie though.

BTW, one of the reason Caps games are awesome... we walked out the door at 6:15pm and we were in our seats for the puck drop.

Re: NHL
You got to see a great game. I got to watch most of the game on TV...actually turned it on in the 2nd period right before Ovie scored his first. It's about time they busted out some kick-ass on someone.89Hen wrote:bandl wrote:![]()

#300 was a pretty good sammie though.89Jr was actually having some stoamch issues right when we were ready to leave so I started calling around to see if any of my buddies could go, but none could get out last second. Jr rallied and by the end of the game felt better. All of my buddies were bitter they couldn't make it.

Police are now investiagting Charo's hit...even though there will be no punishment from the league
Pretty lengthy read and 2 more pages on the link.http://www.freep.com/article/20110310/S ... nt=Twitter
QUEBEC CITY — Montreal police started a criminal investigation today into the on-ice hit by Boston’s Zdeno Chara that left the Canadiens’ Max Pacioretty (Michigan) with a severe concussion and cracked vertebra.
Police said they are acting on a request by Quebec’s director of criminal and penal prosecutions, Louis Dionne. They added that after evidence is collected, it will be determined whether there are grounds for prosecution.
Chara took part in the Bruins’ morning skate before tonight’s home game against the Buffalo Sabres. He did not speak at length on the investigation but did acknowledge it.
“I got some media information on that this morning,” he said. “But like I said, right now, I’m focusing on playing my game and playing hockey.”
The NHL said Wednesday it would not suspend Chara for Tuesday night’s hit, when he slammed Pacioretty into a glass partition.
Re: NHL
police investigation into that sort of thing is ridiculous. watching the clip, it doesn't seem like there was malicious intent in the hit (at least no more so than any other hit in contact sports). Just unfortunate circumstances of the rink design.clenz wrote:Police are now investiagting Charo's hit...even though there will be no punishment from the league

Should police look into filing assault charges for players that throw punches in hockey fights?
Should nascar drivers be criminally charged if they bump another car into the wall?

Apples and oranges. Fighting is part of the game, players know that they might get into a fight and accept the risk. NASCAR drivers accept a similiar risk - rubbing is racing, they know they might get punted into a wall during the race.
A cheap shot with intent to injure is another story. I'm not sure that the police will be able to prove intent here (probably not, hard hits are part of the game), but if they could that might elevate this incident to assault status.
Seems to the me that the key element is intent to injure, and I don't think they can prove that.

Reread my post. Read it as many times as you need, or better yet have someone with comprehension skills read ii to you and explain it.JayJ79 wrote:so ramming another car into a wall is part of racing,
and punching someone in the face is part of hockey.
but you're saying that hitting someone into the boards isn't a part of hockey?
I never said that - in fact I even said hard hits are part of the game. I clearly said it was all about intent. The key word being intent.
Get it - intent.
I - N - T - E - N - T
I spelled it slowly, and with all caps, I hope that helps.

If someone starts a fight with intent to injure, or crashes someone's racecar into the wall with intent to injure, then that is just as bad as running someone into the boards with intent to injure.
So what's the difference that makes it "apples and oranges"?
If anything comes from this, I would think that it would be a redesign of the configuration of the glass around the benches

Re: NHL
You have to prove that there was intent to injure, which isn't easy to do. I remember watching a race about a dozen years ago where Dale Earnhardt wrecked Terry Labonte on the last lap to win a race at Bristol. There was no intent to injure, just to win the race.JayJ79 wrote:You said it was apples and oranges (between Chara's hit, and the things I listed).BlueHen86 wrote:

Same thing with fighting in hockey, most times it's done to fire up your team or to send a message.
I wouldn't want the police getting involved is stuff that is part of the game, like NASCAR wrecks and hockey fights (apples)
I would want them getting involved if there was reason to believe there was intent to injure (oranges).
I'm not convinced the Chara hit falls into the oranges category (I think we agree on that), I just think your analogy is off.

Re: NHL
good lord... this isn't Marty McSorley assaulting Donald Brashear with his stick, it's not even what Gillies does for the Islanders with regularity...
Chara has always been known as a tough, physical, but ultimately not particularly dirty, player... this isn't criminal, hell, it wasn't even met with a suspension.

Someone wake the Flyers up - or remind them that hockey games are longer than 40 minutes. Blowing a 3-0 home 3rd period lead to Atlanta, ugh.
