Why Germany is REALLY on the rise...

A while back kalm made a post about Germany's rising economy so I thought I'd post this article from TIME about it. Notice that there's really nothing about protectionism, unionization, or de-unionization. Germany is reviving manufacturing with actual innovation and producing products that many developing countries don't have the human capital to produce. Not only that, but also money for R&D to help the high-tech companies produce better products.
This is how you revive manufacturing in America, not by trying to get get factories that produce pots and pans back in America.

Great article. Unfortunately, it will mostly fall on deaf ears, as your average conklodite will still prefer to blame the loss of manufacturing jobs on unions, the EPA, and Chinks.

Nice article. Fortunately for the Germans, Churchill isn't around to stop their manufacturing dominance this time.

Germany's engine, however, has spewed toxic fumes. As manufacturers rev exports, the rest of Europe has been unable to compete. Some 80% of Germany's trade surplus is with the rest of the European Union. The more German industry excels, the more other Europeans feel that Germany's success comes at their expense, cracking open schisms within the euro zone just when the region can least afford them. "There is frustration with Germany," says André Sapir, a senior fellow at Bruegel, a Brussels-based think tank. "Germany is moving ahead, but what are they doing for the rest of Europe?"

Thanks for posting that article, it was a good read. It also made me go back and re-read the thread where I made that comment and that was fun.
Your point about innovation is a strong one, but also consider That the krauts subsidized manufacturing jobs throughout the crisis, provide cheap socialized medicine, and heavily subsidize solar energy to the point where it is estimated to provide 25% of electricity demand by 2050. Yep, there is much to be learned from them.

I guess we have a new troll.

Yup, the "rest of Europe" are sounding like Democrats. They'll want to find a way to tax Germany.SDHornet wrote:Nice article. Fortunately for the Germans, Churchill isn't around to stop their manufacturing dominance this time.
