Delaware is really benefitting from a healthy Elena Delle Donne. She contracted Lyme Disease (they think) last summer/fall and is now back almost close to 100%. It's always nice to add the top high school recruit in the country from 2008 halfway through a season. :D

EDD is a great player, no queston about it. But to my observation, I've seen her 4 times against ODU, she seems to play with no passion at all. Now maybe that is the difference beetween 25 and 40 points a game against this level of competition. Maybe that "burnout" business at UCONN was right.

That's a fair observation, but I've also gotta say that she is the female equivalent of "the big man" on the court and I've thought a lot of big men have looked lazy on the court. I think big people have a tendency to look lazy as they're loping around. :twocents:

Btw, I watched about a half hour of the game today. JMU starting to pull away late. Just too strong. Congrats to them. :thumb: the fuckers

RAMS HOPE TO DRAW ON 2009 EXPERIENCE
Image
Joey Rodriguez looks on during VCU's NCAA open practice Tuesday

DAYTON, Ohio – In 20 years, the four remaining players from VCU’s 2009 NCAA Tournament team – seniors Joey Rodriguez, Ed Nixon and Brandon Rozzell, as well as junior Bradford Burgess – may look back fondly on that experience, but now, even two years later, it’s still a sore subject. In that contest, the Rams made a valiant second-half rally against UCLA, but lost a 65-64 decision when Eric Maynor’s final jumper fell short at the buzzer.

DAYTON, Ohio – For just about 72 hours, it was a widely known fact that the Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball team had taken issues with disparaging marks made by college basketball experts across the country about their inclusion in the 2011 NCAA Tournament.

In just over two hours, that same team silenced all critics and completely shut down the Trojans of USC, 59-46, in the final game of the "First Four" at UD Arena. The Rams now move onto the second round of the play in the NCAA Tournament, where they will take on the sixth-seeded Hoyas of Georgetown on Friday evening in Chicago.

"Our guys were highly motivated coming into tonight, ready to show the country that we belonged," Head Coach Shaka Smart said. "To play at their tempo and still come away with a comfortable victory says a lot about our guys ability to do whatever it takes to win."

The victory was the first NCAA Tournament win since 2007 when some guy named Maynor did something pretty cool against Duke. The Rams could technically claim the "L.A. City Title" with victories over both USC and UCLA this season.

"This is my first postseason in my five years in college basketball and we, as seniors, want to make it something special," senior Jamie Skeen said."We're here to win games, we're not satisfied just being here. Image Skeen led all scorers with 16 points on 6-of-12 shooting, while also grabbing nine rebounds on the evening. Junior Bradford Burgess finished with nine points and 10 rebounds, while senior Joey Rodriguez added eight points and five assists in the victory.

"We know that it's a matter of us focusing for 40 minutes on both ends of the court," Rodriguez said. "if we do that, we have the ability to play with anybody in the country."

Luke Hancock's 3-pointer caps George Mason's rally

Post by EPJr »

CLEVELAND -- George Mason's Mike Morrison held his favorite T-shirt with a you-gotta-believe slogan that his team might have another remarkable run in them to match 2006.

Image
"We ARE this year's George Mason."

George Mason's players weren't around for the Final Four run in 2006, and with a win over a Big East power Friday, they've started to make their own memories, writes Brian Bennett.

Rapid Rams drub Hoyas

Post by EPJr »

From the First Four to the third round of the NCAA tournament.
Yes, unheralded VCU is still dancing.

Image

CHICAGO -- Whether VCU belonged in the tournament or not, they're here now. And they apparently plan to stay for a while.

That was the obvious verdict after the Rams' 74-56 win here Saturday night. Usually, upsets are supposed to look like, well, upsets: A scrappy underdog hangs around just long enough to hit a desperate game-winner, the crowd goes wild, Gus Johnson freaks out, all that.
Image
Instead, VCU dominated Georgetown for 30-plus minutes. The Rams opened a double-digit lead late in the first half and never looked back, and a Hoyas comeback never materialized.

Now I know why the ESPN analysts couldn't believe the CAA could get 3 teams into the tournament, they realized it would hurt their bud's from the Big East badly....

The question is no longer whether Virginia Commonwealth belongs. Instead, it's: Who can stop the Rams?
Image

Bradford Burgess scored 23 points and 11th-seeded VCU made it three victories in five days Sunday night, routing third-seeded Purdue 94-76 to earn a trip to the Southwest regional semifinals.

VCU's remarkable run sends the Rams to the round of 16 for the first time in school history.

With their fans chanting "VCU, VCU" as the final seconds ticked off the clock, they've now ousted Southern Cal, Georgetown and Purdue since Wednesday night.

Deep, fast and talented, VCU (26-11) will now play the winner of Notre Dame-Florida State on Friday in San Antonio.

Jamie Skeen added 13 points in a balanced scoring attack as the Rams led by as many 20, shutting down the Boilermakers (26-8) and, for most of the night, quieting a large contingent of Purdue fans at the United Center.

MAGICAL RUN CONTINUES WITH RAMS’ 72-71 WIN OVER FLORIDA STATE TO REACH ELITE EIGHT

SAN ANTONIO, Texas – There are moments throughout our lives that leave us speechless.

For the Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball team and its rabid fans, one of those moments came on Friday night when junior Bradford Burgess connected on a lay-up with less than 10 seconds remaining to give the Rams a 72-71 overtime victory over Florida State. The win sends the Black & Gold to its first-ever Elite 8.

RAMS CONTROL GAME THROUGHOUT, DROP TOP-SEEDED KANSAS, 71-61 , TO REACH FINAL FOUR

AN ANTONIO, Texas – Where do we begin?

A team that everyone in the country doubted, once again shut everyone up with a dominating 71-61 victory over Kansas, the only top seed left in the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Yes folks, the Virginia Commonwealth University men's basketball team is headed to the Final Four next week in Houston.

"What more can I say about this group of guys? Every time this group is doubted, they respond in an overwhelming way and today was no different," Head Coach Shaka Smart. "There was not one media outlet that picked us to win today, but those 14 guys knew that they could and that's all that matters."

gallery: http://www.vcuathletics.com/sports/mbkb ... 0031/index" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Southwest Regional Tournament MVP Jamie Skeen led all scorers with 26 points, as well as grabbing 10 rebounds and picking up two steals. Classmate Brandon Rozzell was the only other Ram in double-figures with 12 points, but it was the defense that stole the show.
