What's good for the goose...

Post by Baldy »

Since Bush was responsible for Abu Ghraib, I guess it's now Obama's turn. Oh, and I am very confident that the US MSM will cover this story just as fairly as they did Abu Ghraib and squarely place the blame just as appropriately as they did in 2004.
[/sarcasm]

US apologises for "repugnant" actions of soldiers in Afghanistan

"Officials launched a damage limitation exercise after an investigation by the German magazine Der Spiegel uncovered 4000 photographs which appeared to document abuses carried out by US troops in Afghanistan.

The magazine said it had published three graphic photographs over the weekend to document a war which had "lost sight of its original objectives."

One picture shows a US soldier casually smoking a cigarette while posing with a partially naked corpse. In a second, another member of the same unit grins as he holds up the dead man's head like a trophy. The third shows two blood-soaked bodies bound to a small pillar.

Last year, 12 US soldiers were charged with crimes ranging from murder to keeping body parts as war trophies after allegedly forming a self-styled "Kill Squad" while they were deployed in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province.

One of the men featured in the three published photographs, Jeremy Morlock, a US Army specialist, is charged with the murder of three Afghan civilians, assaulting a fellow soldier and "wrongfully photographing and possessing visual images of human casualties."

Obama's war. :thumb:

We're sure to be welcomed around the Arab world!

I wonder if Hillary and Co. will be going after Der Spiegel for printing material that puts people's lives in danger.

Where is this article does it say these actions occurred after January 20, 2009? Just because it comes to light now its automatically Obama's fault? I'd say its very likely the actions have occurred across both administrations, so lets not lay the blame solely at Obama's feet.

This is a good point. It will probably just be responded to with mockery and emoticons, though.

Also, wow.

the actions of our troops under one CiC or another is one thing...

an administration going to court to defend and writing legal briefings defending and excusing torture is quite another.

none of that excuses these actions - but the question comes down to was this done as a matter of policy (as was the case in some - i stress some - cases during the bush admin) or was this soldiers and perhaps commanders acting on their own?

by the way - and FWIW - there was no rejoicing or laughing at abu grahib... nobody was happy that "we zinged bush good with that one"... take it from a pretty cynical operative... there was revulsion and grim confirmation that an administration that was writing legal defenses for torture was in fact using those methods...

If those soldier want to take pictures with corpses and body parts......I dont care.

They have earned the right to ALMOST do anything they want. They are the ones getting shot at, that wake up everyday in another country with a large majority of people that want to do them harm, they are not at home with their friends and families.

If this is their outlet GOOD FOR THEM!

If this is their therapy GOOD FOR THEM!

I dont care how the rest of the world looks at it, they dont get a say so in this because they are not a super power so shut the fu*k up.

I completely agree with Alphie here.

War is war. Our adversary targets non-combatants, and utilizes barbaric methods to torture, maim and kill people. They do not comply with Geneva war code, and as such, the only "language" they understand is that of personal and political diminishment...

...in all forms.

Personally, having a dominatrix skull fuck captured Al Quaeda combatants, while wearing a white-man strap on, followed by a slow beheading, after which their body parts are fed to hogs, would be too respectful, IMHO.

Give them their mission, then let soldiers do their thing. Fuck politics. Fuck bleeding heart limousine liberalism.

BUT... the liberal moral haze and hypocrisy is literally the BEST entertainment I have seen on this board literally since I started surfing here.

The only liberal on this entire board who isn't autosucking his own cawk right now is Cleets.

No this shouldn't surprise anyone, and the photo's won't really shock too many Americans as we are desensitized to this type of shit and besides, it happened 1000's of miles away from our comfy homes and almost takes on a video game like feel.

But a brief reminder. These are alleged civilians, and even if they aren't, there are many innocent people who probably don't deserve this type of fate. Our adversary in Afghanistan is a relatively small crime syndicate and the Taliban. The rest of the vast majority of people are simply caught in the crossfire. It's OK to admit there are some deeply unfortunate unintended consequences of war.

That is all. Now back to your tough guy/military fantasies. :coffee:
