Cost of Libya Intervention $600 Million for First Week, Pentagon Says

One week after an international military coalition intervened in Libya, the cost to U.S. taxpayers has reached at least $600 million, according figures provided by the Pentagon.

U.S. ships and submarines in the Mediterranean have unleashed at least 191 Tomahawk cruise missiles from their arsenals to the tune of $268.8 million, the Pentagon said.

U.S. warplanes have dropped 455 precision guided bombs, costing tens of thousands of dollars each.

The US military is a joke.

The safety record of the Thunderbolt II is primarily due to its flight profile and the way we use it, not through any inherent design flaws.

In fact, it is one of the most surviveable planes in the hangar.

The UK is reporting a shortage of Tomahawk missiles, so I think they have probably fired more than 4.

(Speaking from assumption here) The SCALP is much more expensive than the Tomahawk, and I am pretty sure the Brits are going to expend the Tomahawks first. PLUS, the SCALP is not as capable as the Tomahawk. It carries a contact warhead only, meaning it is primarily meant for use against installations as opposed to non-static targets such as aircraft and tanks on the ground.

I've said before that we will be carrying the bucket on this operation, and there is little to no evidence that this is not the case so far.

But it sure is nice to see that Obama has absolutely no problem with the US remaining World Police. Downsize what?

There is a squad of A-10's in East Baltimore County, at least there used to be. We'd be on the practice field and see them flying over all the time(I was at Towson during the 1st Desert Storm). I don't know how they stay in the air, they appear to be going very slow.

Isn't Darfur actually in the oil rich portion of Sudan?

And doesn't most of Libya's oil go to Europe? Shouldn't those sobs be carrying the water here? Or at least paying for it?
