As far as I'm aware, Brian Mull didn't reveal the identity of his sources. What leads you to believe he heard this news "third hand" or that his sources are incorrect?
Fresno St. Alum wrote:Why do you guys insist that a school has to have a football history and be good to move up? FIU, FAU did they have history? No. Were they better than App when they were 1-AA for those couple of years? No but they moved up. Market potential, growth, willing to join the SBC.
Let's revisit this in 5 years when FIU and FAU have hemorrhaged money for 7 years and see if they still even have football.
Okay, if they have football in 7 years you stop posting on here. If they drop football I'll stop posting on here. Is it a deal? If not then you're all talk.

Perhaps we can have this conversation on just 1 message board? My reply to your identical question is over on CAAZone.
Yes I said that, read the part on the last page where I said Charlotte that MIGHT be able to go BACK TO CUSA since THEY WERE A MEMBER and that is the ONLY reason they have a shot.. Still it's more likely that NO ONE gets in CUSA since they have 12. If they go FBS they may very well have to go MAC/SBC route. You just like to annoy, you damn well what I said and you just try and spin it for mighty App and against newbie Charlotte.

Fresno St. Alum wrote:It's hypocritical for the CAA to allow Nova, UMass, Maine, Richmond, UNH to be fb only and not Charlotte.
How's that? VU, UMass, Maine, UR and UNH all came with the deal. It's completely different to not accept MORE football only members than to kick out ones that preceeded you even having a conference.
The CAA may be at 9 if UMass, Nova leave. You have 6 CAA full members, But going from 14 to 9 fb members, is a big drop. I just think adding Charlotte won't hurt at all. If Charlotte is Indy or in the BSouth that may make them want to go FBS faster. If they take their lumps in the CAA, maybe they decide FCS is fine for a while.

moron, I've been here longer than you. I talk about conference movement. This talk is about UNCC not being invited because they want to be FBS. I don't go on EWU's championship thread or start a thread saying they should be FBS.

And I care about that because...?
I don't care if you care. I'm just saying, since you're a CAA guy.

It will be easy to prove if FIU and FAU have fb in 7 years. So I take it you're pussing out. Actually Quinn proved me right when he said Hofstra and Northeastern were on record as saying they would like to be in the A10.

Sure, let's do it here. I confirmed with writer Brian Mull of the Wilm. Star News that he stands by his story and that his sources were not second hand.

I could see how Charlotte could encounter trouble gaining access to CAA Football without membership in the Colonial Athletic Assoc.
For example, what advantage would their FB membership provide to UMaine, UNH, UD or TU if those schools had to add another flight to their FB itineraries? Why would GSU, UNCW & VCU support their entry into CAA Football if Charlotte wasn't also going to offer up other sports to the Colonial Athletic Assoc.? It's a matter of leverage.

True, as long as no one else is in danger of leaving for NEC or dropping or going to FBS. It's just too bad they can't play fb in the CAA together w/o leaving the A10.

There still may be the possibility of another team following URI's lead to the NEC eventually. I don't see evidence that any Colonial Athletic Assoc. team is remotely close to FB reclassification, so there's little to worry about there. In the meantime, there's the distinct possibility that VCU and GSU may investigate D-I FB programs. Barring that, there's always the more desirable option of Colonial Athletic Assoc. expansion with schools who already have FB. CAA Football hasn't ever granted membership to a school who wasn't already a Colonial member, so I'd have to guess that's a last ditch option.

You thinking Maine to the NEC? I heard the GMU rumor start when they made the Final Four in 2006. The VCU one pop'd up just before they got in the Final Four. Interesting. UNCW may start football. Poof they make the final four.

How do HU and NU prove anything about ODU, VCU, GMU...? Why would Hofstra want to leave?

Hofstra is feeling more and more like the odd duck in the Southern-based CAA.
HU and NU are CAA and would go to A10. I said CAA schools would leave for the A10 if offered. You keep wanting to find ways to make yourself think you're "winning"
It laughable to think that it would really save much on travel going to the A10 w/ Ohio, Virginia trips. NU, Drexel, Delaware, Towson, GMU is right up by DC. South? If they want to save downgrade to the AEC.

ORLY?
Fresno St. Alum wrote:You are fans of CAA schools so you defend your conf. it's a great conf. but if ODU or VCU or whoever got an invite to the A10 their Prez would take it.
THIS was the statement that started this whole debate. HU would leave because they feel the CAA is a Southern based conference. HU is not ODU or VCU.

I stand by that too. But you are CHOOSING to forget that I said any CAA which includes NU, Hofstra. The thing that could stop ODU is they could get kicked out for football. Are we done with this subject? I'm bored of talking about it. Especially since me, you, quinn agree that Butler gets the first call if Temple goes to CUSA anyway.
I'm aware my posts on this stuff aren't popular because no one wants to hear that a conf. who has looked equal at best over the last 5 years(small in the 100s of years these schools have been around where more than one school has left for the A10.) to the CAA would leave for the A10 but if the spot came open and a CAA got an invite, they'd go. SoCon is the real overall match to the CAA. No one will leave either for the other as far as I can see.

And you are CHOOSING to forget that any means any, which includes ODU, VCU, JMU, UD... THAT WAS THE PROBLEM MOST OF US HAD WITH YOUR STATEMENT. HU or Drexel? Who cares?

I never said NONE.
Most of us, you mean you? I love the excuse, oh those schools, well who cares. Well even the schools that suck in the A10 don't want in the CAA. Neither does Charlotte except for fb.
Fresno St. Alum wrote:CAA is impressive in the Tourney. Its a class/ladder thing though. Even when Boise and Hawaii were kicking ass in football, both would rather be in the MWC than the WAC. You are fans of CAA schools so you defend your conf. it's a great conf. but if ODU or VCU or whoever got an invite to the A10 their Prez would take it. Plus ODU or any other school could/would stay in the CAA for fb anyway. CAA used to have Richmond, you still have them for football and you don't seem to miss them in basketball.

you said no one would leave the CAA or A10 for the other conf. because it was a sideways move at best. You can't read. I'm not forgetting the 3 good members of the CAA. I said I stand by my statemant, but it includes all not JUST them.
