if that doesn't serve as proof that the "Flutie Effect" is real then i don't know what does.
Applications are up EVERYWHERE and there are no studies that show any increase in quality of applicant because of athletics.

The fall semester of 2011 will be remembered as the most difficult for even the most superior applicants to gain entrance into the top tier colleges and universities. Applications to the eight Ivy League schools plus MIT and Stanford skyrocketed from just over 200,000 applications to almost 300,000 early and regular applications, for a total increase of more than 40 percent, according to Michele Hernandez, President of Hernandez College Consulting.

This year NU received a record 30,975 applicants, nearly doubling its applicant pool from five years ago.

Applications are still pouring in, but it appears becoming an Idaho Vandal is a common goal among high school seniors.

"Our undergraduate applications are up 50 percent at this point," said Steve Neiheisel with the University of Idaho.

Huh? Lehigh and Temple were always bigger historical rivals for UD than nova has been, although nova has certainly been a big rival. I don't recall Delaware being devastated by losing them as rivals when they chose to stop playing UD. I'm pretty sure there'll still be plenty of football and plenty of good times at UD even if nova is never on the football schedule again.

No, don't worry about details like that. Just trust the admission folks and the ones defending their own massive spending on athletics to sort through all of this and tell us that it was more than worth it. There's no vested interest there, just your imagination.

If you wanna put what Lehigh was in the 70's/80's on par with VU now - that's fine. Agreed though that Temple was the biggest rivalry of my Hen Fan Lifetime.

Maybe I've been away from the area too long, but I've never thought of Villanova as anything approaching rival status.

Yes, I meant that Lehigh, not the Patriot League version.

Wow, maybe you have been away too long. Granted, the number of nova fans is pretty miniscule and that inhibits the rivalry a bit, but it's still a pretty heated rivalry. They were never at the level of Temple, back then or today, in terms of rivalry, but it was still there.

Yep, you said it yourself, goto more games & you'd have the pulse of the games. It would be ten-fold if the two would've played in Frisco.

I will have to take your word for it guys. I just don't think a rivalry can be so one sided in terms of support.

Yea, but it is a little more fun that way when you play on the Main LIne & the crowd is 60/40 or 50/50. The Temple series was similar when you think about those Vet crowds.

If Villanova-delaware isn't a big rivalry, then why was Andy Talley the second most hated person in the state as little as a decade ago?

Villanova, just go. Please. And take your increasingly mediocre hoops program with you.
