Good first step, IMO. All companies should drop health benis, retirement, and maybe some others.

I have read your other threads about people wanting to fuck over Gov't employees so I won't touch that one.

These are the days of slim profit margins. It's time to rid the P&L of as many line items as possible and shift that money into salaries of the best and brightest. Both sides of the aisle want more money in the hands of the workers. Wouldn't this make sense?

You think that money would go to workers (other than ones with a three-letter job title)? Cough.

there were two under Clinton... one for ~week and one for ~month and neither effected his reelection chances.

what the economy does will have far, far greater implications for 2012. to say Obama will "for certain" not be reelected because of a government shutdown is just foolish.

It's a start and Congress can lead by example. They could shed THEIR benefits first. Make most government employees lose theirs and bring that cash down to the bottom line. Thereby reducing the amount we barrow from the Chinese every month.

We've been having a lot of the same issues, figuring out how to handle the shutdown. State apparently kept some SOPs from the last one, because the chickens running around with their heads cut off stuff has been kept to a minimum.

I'm non-essential since I'm not currently assigned to American citizen services, so I'll be furloughed in place if we shut down.

I have heard rumors that I'll be losing some pay and/or benefits. (I hope it's dental first, I have yet to figure out what my dental plan pays for)

he will not be reelected because darkys can't work for 8 years straight. everybody knows that.

Dude, our dental plans are worthless. Best to just pay out of pocket.

True, but to say Obama should not be reelected because he is a fool is the truth. What's worse is that he may be reelected because the foolish are allowed to vote is also true. Time to impose a voter test. (Don't bring Jim Crow into this)

Or because Republicans are very likely to nominate a bigger fool.

Given the Donk offerings the last three cycles, I doubt the Conks are your worst enemy. :tothehand:

Obama has actually won a national election... and did so by a huge margin. The Republican field is full of losers, has beens, talk show hosts, etc.

Unless the economy greatly improves I doubt he will be reelected, unless Sarah Palin or some other crazy whacko gets the nomination

he's disappointed everyone, even his far left base. Granted, They WILL vote for him come election day, but I don't think the "independent" voters will do the same

Even out of context, I still wish it were true. Hillary would have been beatable or she would have been better than what we have.

The dude won a popularity contest. He was really popular at the time.
