Rodney Hennon has our best pitcher by far closing while he scrambles to find a Sunday starter. Genius. And this guy was a starter the last two years. Awful coach with great talent.

You're playing on Easter? Wow. Then again, I just checked d1baseball and it seems most of the eastern conferences have games. :ohno:
We play Thurs, Fri, Sat, Easter week.

SDSU played on Easter, being a northern team we have to take advantage of every good day we get for our games. On a side note from that, SDSU lost to SUU 10-0 the game before and then came out and spanked SUU 17-0 during which the SUU coach filed a protest about use of an "illegal bat". Which really makes the Jacks sound like a shady bunch. But, before you judge, please read this article, and then shake your head at the SUU coach for me please.

http://www.argusleader.com/article/2011 ... ltered-bat
Leading 3-1 in the bottom of the third inning, Jackrabbits catcher Zach Briggs connected on a two-out, three-run double that prompted Thunderbirds coach David Eldredge to question the legality of the bat Briggs used. He requested an inspection, asserting that more than 18 inches was covered by pine tar.
After a 10-minute discussion, the three-man umpiring crew ruled that the bat was "altered" rather than "illegal," meaning it would be removed from the game and Briggs' hit stood. Eldredge disagreed, angling for Briggs to be called out and end what turned out to be a six-run inning, and immediately filed an official protest.
Eldredge admitted that possibility was part of his motivation for pointing out the minor infraction - one fewer league loss could make the difference in qualifying for the four-team conference tournament.
"I even apologized to the ump - I didn't want to put him in a spot," he said. "But for our sake I had to maybe find a way to get a half game out of this if we can take a tie instead of a loss.

WSU's had a rough go of things this season, which is too bad since pre-season I felt like we were going to be pretty good. We swept a double-header against BYU yesterday to improve to 17-19 on the year. The two games against BYU broke a streak of 21 consecutive games where the Cougs' opponent was ranked at the time of the game.

Took 2 of 3 from McNeese. We needed the sweep because SFA lost a game to UTA.
Sure wish UTA had held on today, though. They blew a 10-1 lead and lost in 10 to SFA 13-12
(leaves us in a 1st place tie)

Regardless, we had a great game today. Team had 6 HR's
Our LF/LHP/DH (McVaney) had 3 solo shots.
He is the first Bobcat to have 3 HRS in a game since 1987 and only the second player to ever do so. (we started BB in 1985). He also had a HR yesterday in our loss.

http://www.txstatebobcats.com/index.asp ... h=baseball

There was also a call at 2nd that the ump completely missed. Our 3B (Kubitza) hit a single to right. Runner on 1st headed to third so RF sent the ball there. Our 3B headed to 2nd and slid into the bag, hand first, on the outfield side. The tag was late. Our coach usually will walk calmly out to the ump with his hands in his back pockets and present his case, but not today. He practically stormed out with his asst (Fikac) close at hand.
(from my post @ BCR)
I think the best part of the game was when Ty came out to argue Kubitza being called out at 2nd. Fikac came out with him and escorted Kubitza back to the dugout and Ty just ripped into that ump. He was in his face, pointed, he gestured, he followed the guy from 2nd, over to third and into left field. He didn't get tossed, not even close. The ump knew he had blown that call so he couldn't justify ejecting the coach.

The crowd was so into this and McVaney was on deck. Atwood (RF) was on third and I would love to know what he heard. :thumb: :D After roars and constant enthusiasm and encouragement from the crowd Ty finally concluded, McVaney stepped in and hit his 2nd solo HR (Atwood had scored on a WP).

TXST has taken 2 of 3 so far from UTSA. I have to miss today and tomorrow because SA is 100 miles each way for me (split rivalry series - I did get to last night's game in SM)
McVaney gets the save in both games but gave up a run today :(
Fri - Carson Smith pitched 8 innings of shut-out ball and had 14Ks. His last 2 outings he has pitched 15 innings and had 27Ks without allowing a run. Hard to believe he has 3 losses but he was recovering from a shoulder injury early in the season but................he's back :thumb:

Today we took a 6-0 lead and had to hang on for the 9-7 win :ohno:

Now back in first place by ourselves as SFA has lost 2 so far this weekend (been tied there for too many weeks)

30-16, 19-7
Got ranked by Baseball America this week (@ 25)
7 conference games left

Last year App and WCU split their 3-game series 1-1-1 with the third game ending tied in the 8th after storms came in.

This year however, App got the series win with 11-4 and 10-9 wins the last two days. Final game on Monday.
