Hey, SCFBF. You do know that it is ok to take the first few lines of the article and put that in the thread too. RIGHT? I skip a lot of your articles for the simple fact that I don't get to read anything and don't seem to get sucked in because there is nothing but a link. I know most of your stuff is a good read...I just miss it.
Just a thought.

Now that the magazine is sent off to the publisher we will be featuring a blog every day Monday thru Friday and a weekend blog now until the start of football season!
It was a rough magazine season as we wanted to get the magazine off to the printers on Wednesday and did not get it done until this afternoon. We will now be focusing our attention to the FCS preview and the NFL magazine.
Two years ago we put a full color NFL magazine onto the newsstands for the first time and it exceeded my expectations picking 7 of the 8 division winners correctly and we were the ONLY National Preview to pick the Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints to win the NFC South with all others picking Atlanta or Carolina!
This year we will no longer be doing our regional magazines but will feature my FIRST EVER FCS Only Magazine that will cover all 125 FCS teams with a page on each team and more than 175 pages devoted exclusivley to FCS football!

I didn't mean to imply it was YOUR article...but just that you posted it. You never post any info other than the link.
If it is a big problem, D1B has this problem, no worries but it might help getting people to click the link.

Now that the logistics of how to make a better initial impression are out of the way, the real issue is the announcement that Steele will publish an FCS edition. It could be very interesting.

Re: Good news from Phil Steele
I'm told he will indeed be doing one this year. I don't know if it will be only sold through their office or if it will be in stores or if it will only be a PDF yet. It will be interesting to see how they do it. Someone in their office told me that demand is the sole reason for it. If they have enough people wanting the product they will put it on newsstands but the problem is the general public doesn't care enough about FCS for them to pour 100s of thousands of dollars into it unless FCS fans stand up say they want it and show it by purchasing the product. I hope AGS, CS.com, and all of the other boards spread the word and purchase it, no matter the format, so they continue to do it. PS wants to cover FCS in a big time way but he just needs to know he isn't going to lose 200k or 300k in doing it.Mike Johnson wrote:Now that the logistics of how to make a better initial impression are out of the way, the real issue is the announcement that Steele will publish an FCS edition. A link for pre purchase should be made a sticky on this forum.

FYI
This exchange appeared on Tuesday (May 17) on Phil Steele's Facebook page:
Hi Phil, When will the FCS magazine be hitting the shelves?
Phil Steele: The FCS will be a stand alone magazine this year but will have limited distribution and hit the shelves at the end of July. It will be worth the wait!

Limited distribution? Means that we will not get it in Pac-12 Portland. Glad I didn't burn any bridges in anticipation of it.CoachL wrote:FYI

I hope he does like he did last year and include at least the Big Sky in the Pac-12 issue. Guess some coverage is better than none.

Re: Good news from Phil Steele
I'm guessing newsstand available in the eastern half of the US only.
Go ahead and phone in an order. Well worth it and you'll get it sooner.
FWIW, the Big Sky Conference already has a great 39 page 2011 prospectus:

Eastern Washington will enter the 2011 season with an 11-
game winning streak, the longest active streak in the FCS and the third-longest in Division I football. Auburn enters 2011 with a 14-game winning streak,
while TCU enters with a 13-game streak..

Have you ever been to Rich's Cigar and News on Alder Street (I think somewhere between 10th and 12th, but don't quote me on it)? Brother, they've got about every magazine sold in the US... including hundreds of titles in foreign languages. I've actually seen magazines- not limited release or backissues, but just regular old magazines- that sell for over $100 just because no one else carries them. If this gets printed, I'd bet money Rich's will have it.

I'm tempted to take the bet, although if any place here in Duck and Beaver gaga-land would have it, they would. I think its further down (between 8th and 9th).LDopaPDX wrote:JALMOND wrote:

It might the corner of 9th and Alder. Jake's Grill is across the street.
FWIW, never go to Jake's Grill expecting Jake's Famous Crawfish fare. The menu is totally different. Famous Jake's blows Jake's Grill off the map.
