Except that Harmon didn't use chaw...

Harmon is a Mormon, so no tobacco, no alcohol, no caffeine... (he does endorse a brand of root beer that is very popular at Target Field - but I suspect there is no link between that and esophageal cancer) :coffee:

You sure he wasn't a "jack" mormon? :coffee:

maybe some movement on 8-10 some other names like Allison, Molitor, Reardon, Nathan, Mauer and Morneau to be considered...
Mauer and Morneau both have MVPs. That alone almost has to put them on the list, even this early in their careers. How many on your list have won an MVP with the Twins?
I think you can replace Bruno with Mauer at this point - the batting titles and the MVP cover it.

However, Zoilio Versailles has an MVP for the Twins, but I wouldn't make him a top 10.

You're just butt hurt because you took Mauer in a fantasy league thinking he would get you 25 home runs last season, and he didn't....yet he put up .327 BA, .402 OBP, .469 Slugging, .871 OPS, he was an All-Star, won the AL Gold Glove for the third straight year, and won the Silver Slugger (for the 4th time in 5 seasons).

a) You're a little right about the fantasy league thing....and none of the meaningless stats you quote apply in fantasy leagues
b) If Jason fucking Kendall gets in the HOF, I'll quit watching baseball....do NOT hang your hat on THAT dude as a comparison....that does NOT help your case...
c) By 2015 when they move him to 1B or full-time DH because of his physical issues and he's a 10/75/.300 guy making $20,000,000 per, don't come cryin' to me....at that point he'll be like a slightly better Lyle Overbay, and I don't think anybody here is gonna pay Lyle Overbay $186 mil over 8 years...

Oh, I don't know...maybe the ONE season where he hit 3 x as many HR's as any OTHER season, maybe the ONE season where he hit almost 40 points higher than his career average, maybe the ONE season where his OPS was over 150 points higher than his career average...you know.....THAT season.

If by just like Lyle Overbay, you mean a batting average that is 50 points higher, an on-base % that is 50 points higher, an RBI average that is 30 runs higher, and an OPS that is 25 points higher.....Than yes, he is JUST like Lyle Overbay.

Nice cherrypicking of stats, conveniently leaving out HR's and inflating the RBI difference by almost 100%, not to mention some comprehension issues......

162 game averages (HITS/HR/RBI/SB/AVE/OBP/SLG/OPS)

Overbay: 151/17/74/2/.273/.356/.444/.800....$5 million salary
Mauer: 195/16/91/7/.326/.406/.479/.885....$23 million salary

So the extra $18 million per YEAR buys you 44 hits a YEAR (or the equivalent of about 2 hits a week), 1 LESS HR, 16 more RBI's (or the equivalent of about 1 RBI every six weeks), one more SB a month....yeah.

Oh, but I forgot...he's got all those gold gloves, and those really cool popularity contest trophies....

Like I said, when he's moved to 1B (or, God forbid full time DH) because of health issues and that golden glove never comes out of the bag, he'll be the best slap-hitting 1B/DH in the AL making $23 million....

I did not 'conveniently' leave out HR. He averages ONE less HR, and by far trumps him in the RBI category. It doesn't matter HOW you drive in the runs (home runs), because he is still driving in the runs.

and one is a first baseman... the other is a catcher...

compare him to the catchers in the league... it isn't even CLOSE. Carlos Santana may be good enough someday to compete offensively, but for the combination of offense, defense and position scarcity is what makes the guy so remarkable.

also - the one season of home run numbers wasn't an "aberration" look at where his homers went out playing at the metrodome... almost EVERY SINGLE ONE went out in the left center field gap... a gap that just so happens to be 6-8 feet DEEPER at Target Field... where a dozen or more Mauer doubles fell last season - and since most of Mauer's '09 homers fell in the first two or three rows... there you have it.

compare him to the catchers in the league... it isn't even CLOSE. Carlos Santana may be good enough someday to compete offensively, but for the combination of offense, defense and position scarcity is what makes the guy so remarkable.

And my point all along is, when he's moved to 1B next year (or DH) and he's still a 10/80 guy, you'll bemoan his $23 million salary that's single-handedly keeping the Twins irrelevent for the next 6 years. Because it's GOING to happen...you KNOW it. I know it. The whole WORLD knows it....so you might as well start comparing him to first basement NOW, becuase the bulk of that contract is going to be paid out with him manning that position.
