Who cares about the Twins? Who's your favorite O's, hon?

Man, that's tough....

Greatest for me probably comes down to the Robinson's/Cal. But my favorite is, and always will be, Cal. I literally grew up watching Cal play from the very first baseball I ever saw as a Rookie at Memorial Stadium to the last game I ever saw him play in Yankee Stadium (was supposed to be his second to last EVER, but 9/11 kinda screwed that up). He was my baseball (not life) idol. Still is, actually.

Well, that's how long I've been alive, so I don't remember any greats besides Ripken.

Brooks Robinson because he was my dad's hero growing up and I was a third baseman most of my baseball playing days... And Brooks was probably the best defensive 3rd baseman ever.

John McGraw ?

Although his ML playing career spanned 16 seasons, McGraw was at his best as Ned Hanlon's fiery third baseman in Baltimore, a star on a team that won three consecutive titles from 1894 to 1896. A lefthanded batter, he was an adroit bat handler who could hit for average, batting over .321 nine consecutive seasons. He twice led the league in runs and walks and stole 436 bases. He and Willie Keeler were experts at the hit-and run play.

This was tough. B-Rob was one of the greatest defensive infielders EVER. But I gotta go with The Streak. In the age of 'Roids and $$, it's highly doubtful anyone will top that.

I agree with jellybelly because I'm in his dad's generation!

Best player without a doubt was Frank, best player to spend his entire career with the O's, Brooks.
Ripken gets points for consecutive games, but that doesn't make him greater.

This is a generational thing. If you are over 50, it's Brooksy. For everybody else it's Cal.

My tipe 5 is :
1. Cal Ripken, Jr.
2. Brooks Robinson
3. Jim Palmer
4. Frank Robinson
5. Eddie Murray

Frank would be higher on the list if he had been an Oriole for a longer period.

If Kent Hrbek had stayed in shape and been healthy, he may have been in the conversation for all-time Twins. His stats are very comparable to Ripken's, if not better if average them into 162 games. I mention Hrbek because he took 2nd to Ripken in Rookie of the Year voting in 1982. Ripken was MVP in 1983, Hrbek took second to Willie Hernandez in 1984. Ripken's numbers might have been better too, if he had taken some days off or played a different position.
