Lance Fraudstrong

Post by 93henfan »

Still won't own up to his cheating for so many years. Pathetic. :ohno:

It was easy for him to pick apart accusations by Floyd Landis a year ago, more difficult to refute Tyler Hamilton's accusations to 60 Minutes earlier this week, but then today it comes out that one of his closest friends and staunchest supporters, George Hincapie, testified to the feds that Fraudstrong has been doping for years, through the big Tour de France run.

http://sports.espn.go.com/oly/cycling/n ... id=6571826
...Hincapie has often been depicted as one of Armstrong's most loyal teammates and was with him for all seven Tour victories. In an interview last year, Armstrong said Hincapie was "like a brother to me."

Hincapie is among a number of former Armstrong teammates and employees who have appeared before a federal grand jury in Los Angeles investigating doping in cycling. Hamilton said he testified for six hours before the panel.

Armstrong has never tested positive and has steadfastly denied doping.

Using unidentified sources, "60 Minutes" reported that Hincapie testified that he and Armstrong supplied each other with the endurance-boosting substance EPO and discussed having used another banned substance, testosterone, to prepare for races. Citing the ongoing investigation, Hincapie declined to be interviewed by "60 Minutes," which will air its piece on the Armstrong investigation at 7 p.m. ET Sunday...

Well, it's far from being the only sport with this issue.

Btw, I believed everything Floyd Landis said all along. It seems like the sleaziest characters (Landis, Canseco) always seem to have the straight scoop when it comes to the seedy department.

Yeah, I'm sure his good friend has a lot of incentive to commit perjury just to get him in trouble.

Whether he is clean or not, I find it hard to believe that he has been tested probably 1,000 times over the past 10 years and not once has he failed a test...

The problem is, without a confession by Armstrong or an actual failed test, it's an issue that will never be resolved. Most who have come out against Armstrong have said, at some point in time, that he didn't cheat, so they've lost a lot of credibility. I'm not sure what the Feds are pursuing here. Did he cheat at some point in time? You'd have to be naive to think he never cheated. But since the late 90's to now, there hasn't been an athlete who's been more hounded and more tested and more watched and people have been foaming at the mouth to catch him and they've been unable to. I think he probably cheated at one point in time, but for a good portion of time he didn't because of the scrutiny. Either way, unless there's a smoking gun out there, not sure how he's ever going to be proven guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt. This ain't Bonds.

Any why are wasting tax dollars investigating Lance Armstrong anyway?

Absent a failed drug test amongst the nearly 500 times he was tested, both in and out of competition, I say that this is of no consequence.

I could care less one way or the other except that my ever expanding government is wasting my money chasing a cyclist! My God, aren't there some real criminals we could be going after?

Did you watch the piece on 60 Minutes? He is alleged to have popped for EPO on a test at the 2001 Tour Swiss. There were several odd, unprecedented occurrences in the immediate aftermath of that failed test. The testing center agreed to a meeting with Armstrong and the cycling union. The test result mysteriously went away, and Armstrong gave two large monetary donations to the cycling union for "anti-doping efforts", the only cyclist to have done so, or have been allowed to do so. Talk about a blatant conflict of interest.

I have no problem with this being pursued by the government. I like seeing scumbags squirm.

Ditto, especially when it's a scumbag who enjoys having most of the country tickle his nut. :coffee:

I don't think that is a valid function of government but that is for another forum.

I have no problem with the government going after people that ship illegal drugs through the mail, that lie and cheat to obtain millions of dollars fraudulently, etc, etc.

Not that it'll happen, but what do you suppose will happen if Lance sacks-up and says, "Yeah, I did 'em!"?

They'll strip his Tour wins and chastise him forever, and the one man that made cycling relevant will make it irrelevant again. :coffee:

And Greg Lemond will shit in a bag, set in on fire, ring Lance's doorbell and laugh, as will I.
