A good first 1/4 a season doesn't make up for over 100 straight starts without a win

It's a 1/3 season actually at 12 of 36 complete, nearly the halfway point of the 26 races that determine the Chase contenders. You are correct that it doesn't make up for the lack of wins. Like I've said previously, I think he has the right equipment and crew chief in Steve Letarte to get things done this year. You have to realize that on a four car team, not everyone is going to be a world beater. Jimmie Johnson and Mark Martin were really the stars of Hendrick Racing the past couple of years with Gordon and Jr really down. They completely reshuffled their resources in the off-season and now it looks like Martin is way down, Johnson is slightly worse, and Gordon and Jr are way better. The driver is really at the mercy of his situation. Granted, I'd like to see Jr be a little more aggressive sometimes, but his clean style lends itself to not making enemies and getting put in the wall every few races like Harvick, Busch, Edwards, Montoya, and the rest of the hotheads.

What a waste of gas....Bitterroot 50 is more exciting. At least we have to dodge the occasional drunk, skunk, deer, elk or moose!
