Goldschmidt, the D-backs' top-rated first base prospect, clubbed a two-run drive off Stars starter Cody Scarpetta in the first inning, tying him with Toronto's Jose Bautista for the most in baseball.

Re: More Goldschmidt News
Yesterday, Arizona GM, Kevin Towers, said that there is a good possibility that Goldschmidt wouls skip AAA and be promoted to the Bigs after the All Star break. Reported on rotoworld. Great news and let's hope it happens as reported.

Re: More Goldschmidt News
Not sure why...they've gotten 8 HR's, 37 RBI and about a .265 average from their platoon of Juan Miranda and X. Nady. Unless their intent is to deal either Mirand or Nady at the deadline for some more pitching help. Other than that, I'm not sure who's spot on the roster he'd take....(although I'd be perfectly fine if they got rid of Melvin Mora).CatMom wrote:Yesterday, Arizona GM, Kevin Towers, said that there is a good possibility that Goldschmidt wouls skip AAA and be promoted to the Bigs after the All Star break. How about 1B?/Miranda. He's doing really well I hear
Goldschmidt
63 games
78/227 .344
HR 21
156 total bases
59 RBI
SP - .687
OBP - .465
OPS - 1.152
Ks - 44 BB 51
Miranda
47 G
30/123 .244
HR 6
57 total bases
17 RBI
SP - .463
OBP - .350

Nope, I see no reason to replace Miranda with Goldy
This is AZs future. He will adjust quickly and go about his job. He's also a really nice kid. Get him in there and get the best years out of him.

a) it's AA vs the majors....you can't project his AA numbers straight across the board...CatMom wrote:How about 1B?/Miranda. He's doing really well I hear![]()

b) he has twice as many at bats as Miranda...Miranda is in a platoon situation with Nady, which is why I compared Goldschmidt to the total platoon production.
That being said, he's a hell of a hitter and I'd still love to see them call him up soon....Either Nady or Mora could go and we'd be just fine with Goldschmidt as the backup (and eventually the starter).

Re: More Goldschmidt News
Oh, I know AZ. Baseball pundits/critics have said this since he was drafted. College won't project to rookie league. Rookie league won't project to High A. High A won't project to AA., etc., but he has stayed consistent with every move up. Guess I'm just anxious to see him crack the Bigs.
He's bigger/stronger and more disciplined than when he played at TXST and I can't wait to watch him, again. I can make Astros games (I know one of the new owners), even if I'm a Phillies fan. A DBack series in Houston, with him in the line-up, will make the trip worth it.

Re: More Goldschmidt News
Goldschmidt will represent in the Futures game on 10 July. He is the only 1B selected for the team.
Can be seen on ESPN2 @ 5 PM (not sure what timezone this reps, so check your listings) on 10 July

The jump from college to AA is small compared to the jump from AA to MLB.CatMom wrote:Oh, I know AZ. Baseball pundits/critics have said this since he was drafted. Based on his stats It does seem like Goldschmidt is ready to make the jump to MLB though. It is at least worth giving him a look.

Re: More Goldschmidt News
Nice article by local beat reporter from the SMDR. He had put in a request to interview the former Bobcat

Through 85 games with Mobile, Goldschmidt leads all minor leaguers in the United States in home runs (25), is second in RBIs (76) and fourth in total bases (192).
