as bad as Jacksonville was, it was never as bad as the field at Rice-Totten stadium, with dry grass and potholes. They had to close the place down last year.

As bad as the stadium was, the referees in Itta bena were even worse.

however - the turf at the Dome - is apparently WORSE than the turf was at the Metrodome in the late 90's - a surface I played on in three playoff games in HS... and was miserable.

I've heard that USD's Dakota Dome turf is even worse - from a buddy who played there for a year... that sounds scary.

Looking at TJ's pics though - leads me to say that MVSU is the worst... yuck.

And, as much as it pains me... Wa-Griz is the class of FCS, the field is top-notch, 25k+ at every game, and they are always in to it...
that place has to be seen in person to truly understand how bad it is. Here's another candidate, PVU's Blackshear Stadium:

Yeah I played high school ball in Connecticut where it's not as big a deal in other states and even then there were some nicer high school stadiums that I played at.

In all fairness, some schools simply don't have the resources to build anything better. I guess it's either dry-rot wooden bleachers or no football. Shame.

Then those schools shouldn't be anywhere near division 1 athletics.

you gotta remember they cut out the program for a year (1991) and didn't offer schollies until the mid 2000's. Wasn't much money in their program. But the school continues to grow rapidly, my niece graduated from there this year.

Congrats to your niece! :thumb:
I'm happy for her despite her going to the wrong school and being a part of the first PVU class in ages to have a winning record against Southern.

Worst place I ever played was Northeastern. That field in the early 90's might as well have been a carpeted parking lot. It F'ing sucked!

Anyone ever see a game at Montana's old Dornblazer Stadium? Holy schitt, that place should've been condemned. It was a bunch of poorly fabricated metal bleachers in rust orange. For as nice an FCS venue as WA-Griz is now, Dornblazer was the complete opposite end of the spectrum.

Anyone remember Eastern's old Albi Stadium? There was a lot of talk about moving games from Spokane back to campus in Cheney... I was opposed to it at the time as Woodward needed so much renovation (and still does... it is at best a half finished stadium now). The Eagles always drew better at Albi, but it also housed a pro soccer team and had weird lines all over the field. The facility itself was quite nice, except it was one of those old school crowned fields that made playing on it really weird because any place outside the hash was about 3-5 feet lower than the middle of the field.

A nice stadium isn't a requirement for a winning Division 1 program. Just ask Richmond and Villanova.

I never thought City Stadium was terrible. Wasn't great by any imagination, but I thought it was on a different level better than a place like nova.

portajohns are basically plastic jugs anyway, so I don't see what the big deal is about that.

1.) Hick towns are the best :D

2.) Mud in the tailgate area sounds good to me... Just imagine the possibilities 8-)

3.) I've pissed in worse places... :?

From my own experience , JAMES Madison is the best place, great band, huge new video board and with the stadium expansion it will only get better !!!
William and Mary and Liberty are nice stadiums to watch a game. The people at W & M are really nice . we were invited to several tail gate events as we walked to the stadium. The people at Liberty were nice too.
I over heard a Delaware fan say " If you want enthusiastic fans , then go to JMU or App St. All of our fans are old , rich people."
The worst place is City Stadium in Richmond. What a dump. Several years ago they threw bottles at the Marching Royal Dukes as they performed on the field.

VMI is a great place to watch a game ,also. It is neat to watch the "RATS " march in and get their seats. Parking is difficult.
I liked the Towson venue. We arrived early enough to park right at the gate entrance and tailgating was really cool.Leaving Baltimore at 11 pm is not the most desirable thing in the world. LOL . Towson has a nice video board.
