why cant they? They do when they have a rain out scheduled doubleheader.
They really don't have a choice with the rain-out DHs. They might affect the pennant race. Of course, at the end of the season, if a rain-out involves two teams who are out of it just might blow it off.
first you say the double headers will be refused by owners because they cant possibly pull it off, then when pointed out they pull it off all the time you fire back with the teams will blow off a double header if they are out of the race?
They dont have to have double headers every week... they can run from May to August.
I eagerly await your next excuse for why it wont work.

too be honest, I have my doubts about double headers being every weekend as well. I'm for it but I have my doubts such as getting the fans in and out, cleaning the stadium, weather, as well what happens if a game goes extra innings and has to push the 2nd game back even further.

MLB is just not a good fit in Florida PERIOD.
So so true. Absolutely an embarrassment in both TB, and Miami.
In fact, pretty much all pro sports in the entire state.
Perhaps the article should have focused on both the Marlins AND the Rays....
This season, however, fewer locals are watching -- either from box seats or Barcaloungers. The Rays are currently last in the AL in attendance, averaging 18,485 fans per game, the second-worst attendance average in baseball, ahead of only the Marlins. That’s a drop of more than 5,000 fans per game from 2010.
It really is a sad situation but at least the Marlins are doing something about it with a new stadium. I think once they move into the stadium they will definitely see an attendance boost. I think a major reason why the marlins do so bad is because of the heat as well as the current product but I believe they can do something about that.
it's sad that the people down there dont come out for this team, especially the past few years when they have been very good teams... Its gotta be deflating for the players and the loyal fans, the few there are, when the Sox or Yanks come to town and the home town fans are outnumbered 3 to 1... granted Boston and New York have that effect in many cities, but Tampa is amongst the worst, because tickets are so readily available.
This team can succeed, the ownership and front office can lead this team to greatness for a long time... just not in Florida.
I hope wherever they end up, they bring their stadium plans with them, because I loved the images of the proposed stadium that wasnt approved.

the Marlins do so bad because their run by a cheap bastard who swindled the taxpayers with the new stadium. The fans their will never forget what Loria did and that team will suffer as long as he is the owner.
I really hope this franchise can figure something out soon. This franchise definitely knows what they are doing even though they are handcuffed right now and have nowhere to go. They got a beautiful spring training facility down in port charlotte where their single-A team the Charlotte Stonecrabs play their games. The Rays themselves have a great on-field product considering their payroll. They got the 2nd lowest payroll in baseball and yet they are right there in the AL East only 3.5 games out of first. This franchise deserves better.

You care to back that up? The Fish have done pretty good over the years. I defy you to say that they sucked while Bob Griese and Dan Marino were at the helm. Not to mention that right now they have the best kicker in the realm of male football.
SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

One of the main problems is that towns like TB have populations that are widely made up of retirees and transplants from other areas of the country, such as Boston and NY. People like that don't give a shit about teams like the Rays. They support the teams from where they came from.

The fan support of nearly every professional sports organization that resides in FLA is amongst the worst in all of their respective leagues. Marlins, Rays, Bucs, Heat, Lighting, Magic, Panthers.
The Dolphins are the lone exception, and they play in the league where people only have to attend 8 home games per season.

While I'm originally from the tri-state area and grew up a New York sports fan I am one of the very few "transplants" that support TB sports. Regardless if New York teams are in town I continue to support TB sports as well.
Also another article that talks about the Rays but primarily talks about the A's....

OK. You get a pass. Normally, using absolutes like "all" and "never" are self defeating, because exceptions can almost always be found. But you said "pretty much", which sort of assumes that an exception MIGHT exist. I guess we agree that the Fish are it. And given the preponderance of the evidence, it appears that you are right.
Too bad the original Fort Lauderdale Strikers are no longer in existence. They were one of the best outfits in the old NASL.

I presume you mean that they suck NOW. I really don't think you can back up much more than that as they've produced at least two HOF quarterbacks, several outstanding wideouts, and have at least one SB title. Not to mention that they have some decent players now (including said outstanding kicker) and are probably a good quarterback away from getting back to the Super Bowl.

not to mention they do have a pretty good fanbase both in-state and out-of-state.

What is it with you people? Y'all are the joke of this entire board now, and you just keep giving everybody more and more ammo.
