Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
It seems to me that all eyes are on the Big East at this point. With 17 teams (now that TCU is in) - the football/all sports split of the conference kind of feels inevitable. Given the posturing and jockeying of the various teams in the BE's sphere of influence - it would appear they believe it to be in the offing as well.
FSA - Am I wrong in thinking the BE would target UCF (and their nice new stadium and Orlando market) as well as maybe Memphis (to add a decent TV market - and bring Louisville a rivalry game)?
If so, that would pull two out of CUSA...

Of course nothing is official until FSA give his seal of approval.

Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
Tampa's market is bigger but not by much. Personally I feel UCF would be a better all sports fit than USF. But football wise it's kind of a wash right now. Although I would love to see the War on I-4 be a yearly thing that USF can't back out of.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:It seems to me that all eyes are on the Big East at this point. Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
I highly doubt UNI would go to the CUSA, even if it was offered (which it won't be).slycat wrote:CUSA is a great move. It gives better exposure and chance to recrut better. UNI would be happy to have a chance to go to CUSA, you might not but UNI would.
such a move would escalate costs, both in having to fund the extra scholarships (and the extra womens scholarships and whatnot), but also in a TON more travel costs, since Cedar Falls isn't anywhere close to the CUSA geographical footprint.
I know that everyone is convinced that jumping to FBS automatically means a ton more income. But I really don't see that in this hypothetical scenario. Certainly not enough to cover the increase in costs.
As far as the actual topic on hand, I can't really claim to know all that much about MSU's situation financially and all. They are closer to a geographical fit for CUSA than UNI is, but I still wouldn't hold my breath on them making the jump.

Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
I read somewhere that CUSA tv deal is worth about $1 million per school, that wouldn't even come close to covering the needed expenses to move up to the FBS let alone the money MSU would need to pump into their football stadium to make it an adequate FBS facility.

Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
That would be a pretty safe bet. CUSA wouldn't be looking to add schools just for the hell of it. UCF and Memphis would definitely be the mostly likely candidates to leave that conference.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:It seems to me that all eyes are on the Big East at this point. Why would our AD even CARE to deny it at 10:00 at night if there wasn't anything behind it?
From the sounds of it, we got the invite but our Board of Governors hasn't had the chance to vote on it yet, so obviously he is going to deny every single bit of it.
1 You're not good enough for CUSA
2 CUSA won't take an FCS school
3 CUSA won't go to 13
4 If they lose say UCF, they'll replace them with FIU or Temple
Would you like to bet me on it? If MSU doesn't get invited, you don't post here ever again. If they do

If 2 left CUSA I'd go UCF and Houston.TwinTownBisonFan wrote:It seems to me that all eyes are on the Big East at this point. This seems to be the BEs idea, stall and do nothing, wait another year. They wanted so bad to get a school(s) that they didn't have to give a full invite to. Army/Navy. Who have said they aren't interested more than once. The bball schools really want Nova so they don't have to add another school. 18K stadium even expanded to 28K won't cut it. In the end they'll probably settle for 1 of UCF or Houston. Temple and FIU would be the top replacement candidates. CUSA has also said that they wouldn't not need to get back to 12 if they lost 2, just to get back to 12.
Right now only 2 conferences are willing to add FCS schools (MAC, WAC). SBC came out last month and said they're only interested in FBS schools right now(La Tech) They could change their mind, if Charlotte, App St. become options. However the MWC and CUSA would never add an FCS school because it would make them look worse than the WAC and SBC. Who they are above. The only lonnnnnnnnnggggg shot at FCS to CUSA if they are under 12 members is Charlotte who was in CUSA already. Highly unlikely though.

I also call bogus. The CUSA is in a rock-solid position right now and has a whole platoon of prospective members all ranked ahead of missouri state. Freaking any current WAC member, SBC member, or MAC member would want in and be higher on the waiting list than somebody in the MVC

Yeah, so physical that our rep gave up 200 yards rushing in one half.

Its important to mention that Bill fette made most of those 200 yds possible.

Because everything on Twitter is to be believed without question, someone posted that Old Dominion has been contacted by CUSA as well.

I hope the tongue-in-cheek nature of my post is recognized. The guy on Twitter said it but until an official from CUSA confirms this, it means nothing.

Re: Missouri State to Conference USA
I can think of a bunch of teams that'll be invited to CUSA before Missouri State (no offense to MSU). Sorry, but I'm not believing this one 'til I see it, and even if I see it, I won't believe it.

This is a great get by the CUSA. For years, advertisers have been looking to encapsulate and cultivate the coveted Southern Missouri marketplace. Now CUSA has satiated the advertisers and brought the disgruntled Ex-Missouri Tiger fan constituency to the sports market. I suppose the only question that remains is can Missouri State bring to the fold proud Rag-time hotbed Joplin, and Missouri Riviera destination Branson?

Who is Craig Pearson and why should anyone believe his Tweets? I'd tend to give the 'news' more credibility if this cat has professional credentials.

If it happens, great.
If it doesn't happen, great.
I love the Valley and it would be weird seeing us leave.
It would also be hard to see us take our lumps for who knows how many years in CUSA
Just let it runs its course and that will be that

Sounds like it is NOT C*USA, but it also sounds like there for sure is an open invitation to join A conference... which one? Who knows.
My guess is WAC.
