2006: Played in 14 games ... made eight tackles, most on special teams ... broke up one pass in the defensive backfield.

2005: Was pressed into action when cornerback Justin Woazeah left the Coastal Carolina game with a minor injury ... on his first collegiate series, Love broke up a pass in the end zone to thwart a Chanticleer scoring drive ... went on to play in five more games ... recorded only tackle of the season at Elon.

High School: Second-team all-Mecklenburg selection by the Charlotte Observer as a senior ... first-team all-Southwestern 4A Conference honoree ... helped lead Butler to a 5-2 finish in Southwestern 4A Conference play and 7-5 overall record ... coached by Mike Newsome.

High School -- A son of former Cal Poly quarterback Craig Johnston, Phil was a wide receiver and free safety under his dad at Carmel High, helping the Padres to an 8-3 record, a second-place Mission Trail Athletic League finish and a spot in the CIF-Central Coast Section playoffs ... in three varsity seasons, Johnston caught 135 passes for 2,075 yards and 21 touchdowns, all Monterey County records … in 2005 Johnston intercepted three passes and notched 55 solo tackles and five sacks … as a junior he recorded 71 solo tackles and six sacks ... Johnston, whose older brother Pat is a backup quarterback at Cal Poly, is a three-time first-team All-Mission Trails Athletic League wide receiver and twice earned all-county honors as well … also is a two-time all-league defensive back, two-time honorable mention All-CIF-Central Coast Section selection, two-time preseason All-Central Coast Team and two-time All-San Jose Mercury News ... UC Davis also offered Johnston a scholarship.
