So far we have NDSU and the Gophers even on coaching:

1) Coaching even
2) Running game: NDSU
3) Running Defense: NDSU
4) Passing game: even. Gophers have a new QB
5) Passing defense: Gophers
7) Special teams: Gophers

Now some intangibles:

1) speed: Even slightly leaning NDSU
2) Athleticism ?
3) Size: even
4) Strength: ?

Intangibles:

1) Home field: even no advantage, slight favor to the BISON
2) Beloved underdog status with a record to show they are dangerous: NDSU
3) Motivation: NDSU

Right now all the coefficients are pointing to a toss-up.

The Gopher schedule looks like this:

Sat, Sep 03 Southern California at Los Angeles, Calif. 2:30 p.m.
ABC
Sat, Sep 10 New Mexico State TCF Bank Stadium 2:30 p.m.
BTN
Sat, Sep 17 Miami (Ohio) TCF Bank Stadium 2:30 p.m.
BTN
Sat, Sep 24 North Dakota State TCF Bank Stadium 6:00 p.m.
BTN

NDSU remains the hot ticket for the Gophers.

The NDSU BISON open the schedule with the Lafayette Leopards (see thread for full discussion), followed by St. Francis (see thread). This is a good series of games for NDSU to build on. I expect The BISON will be in full stride and the Gophers will be finishing a 3 game home stand.

I also expect a large NDSU contingency. It will be smaller than last time because the stadium is smaller but it could still be a "home game atmosphere" for the BISON. I don't think anybody will deny that was the case in the Metrodome and its likely the case for this game.

Your whole OOC is must wins because that's the only way you can make the playoffs without breaking .500 in MVC play, and you have proven incapable of that so far, even in the weakest year the MVC has ever had. Buying a couple of cheap wins against non-scholarship teams was a prescient move, otherwise ol' JaBBer is left outside, sniffing bicycle seats in the parking lot....

The BISON have always had troubles with running QBs and containing them. Marquis Gray will more than likely be the starter (although not declared yet) and let me tell you something, Kills spread offense works VERY WELL with Gray's ability to run the offense. You are right, he is very new at QB in COLLEGE. He was WR last year and one of the best on the team. He will be the most athletic player on the field (on paper) and with the spread that's dangerous for the BISON defense.
**I'm bringing a realistic outlook to this.

Home field...come on. That is just stupid. :ohno: We will bring A LOT of fans in comparison to other teams this year...I can pretty much guarantee it...but still, the Gophers have the advantage

Apparently there arent enough wins anyplace for SIU. They were routed by the BISON last year, kicked around by most other schools and helped fill the ranks of the bottom half of the MVFC. This is not a record to be boasting from.

The idea that NDSU isnt going to establish a "home field" atmosphere is stupid. I dont think you watched the clip I posted did you? I dont think you were at the Gopher games NDSUFreak.

Kill is a good coach. But you havent made the argument he is better than Bohl. We agree the QB position is a wash.

SIU beat the stuffing out NDSU, it was just one of those fluke games where the weaker team hung around due to turnovers and got lucky against three true freshman DBs. :coffee:

The Bison have never been over .500 in MVC play, the Salukis have never been under .500 in MVC play. :coffee:

You have more excuses for the poor play and coaching of the SIU football squad than Lennon himself!

Fact is your underclassman werent as good as the NDSU underclassman so you can expect to get kicked around by the BISON for years to come.

But lets get back on topic. This thread is about BCS vs. FCS, The BISON @ Minnesota Gophers. NDSU wins these games far more often than not. Lets keep focused on what is going to be real good matchup.

Yes I was at the games. We had one hell of a presence there in the dome but I have yet to think it'll be the same at TCF. Once we hear how the single game sales go in July for that game then that'll be the determining point of how much of an effect the fans in the stand are but they have the advantage of playing on THEIR field in MINNEAPOLIS.

This argument is stupid...

Every NCAA football prognosticator in the world considers the home-field advantage when preparing coefficients for entry into the resolution formula. You're stupid if you dont. The home field advantage at the Metrodome was neutralized if not overcome by the huge number of NDSU fans at those games.

I agree we wont know until the sales are final how big the NDSU contingent is going to be but we have some idea. This is the hottest game ticket on the Gopher schedule. Prices are through the roof. You can draw a couple conclusions from that:

1) Gopher fans are more excited about the BISON game than the Big 10 schedule or other OOC games
or
2) There is tremendous demand for the tickets from NDSU BISON fans.

Im going with the second option and declaring no home field advantage for the Gophers, which puts that in favor of NDSU, say +1.

Hey I just remembered EWU announced the down during our cadence every play. Strip EWU of all 2010 wins! Those bastards are wily

After reviewing this thread, some of the comments from fans accross the country lead me to believe that generally speaking FCS fans dont think they can beat FBS teams and dont take the games seriously. I see this from NDSU fans as well. Even in this thread you see some NDSU fans being condensending about the win. They dont think it can happen. They dont think it will happen.

Thats something they are considering outside of the scope of NDSUs comprehensive scheduling policy. NDSU is scheduling games they can win. Thats good for 2 reasons:

1) The more we win the better games we can schedule
2) An FBS/BCS win is a huge advanage in playoff selection

This is an important game for NDSU. A win has big advantages. You could call it a leveraged win.

Thanks for the update Gil. This is important news for those fans keeping a "prog-card" at home. Certainly this will require some re-figuring for the alert prognosticator.

In my opinion this strengthens NDSU grip on the running game.

Here's my updated "prog-card" for the contest:

1) Coaching even
Prog-Card update wrote:2) Running game: NDSU-gophs lose top running back. NDSU maintains a mature and talented backfield.
3) Running Defense: NDSU
4) Passing game: even. Gophers have a new QB
5) Passing defense: Gophers
7) Special teams: Gophers

Now some intangibles:

1) speed: Even slightly leaning NDSU
2) Athleticism ?
3) Size: even
4) Strength: ?

Intangibles:

1) Home field: even no advantage, slight favor to the BISON
2) Beloved underdog status with a record to show they are dangerous: NDSU
3) Motivation: NDSU

Eskridge IMO isn't even the better running back of the two (the other Duane Bennett) Eskridge was the leading rusher by 150 or so yards and it was basically a 1-2 punch for the Gopher offense last season...Bennett is a good back and actually compares quite well with Bennett. How much do you even know about the Gopher football team?

Don't take Eskridge leaving the Gopher team as a HUGE deal...because it really isn't.
