MLB All-Star Rosters are out

Post by SuperHornet »

http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/events/all_star/ ... league.jsp

I'm happy that three of my BRM folk made the team (all reserves, though). I'm NOT so thrilled that of my Pads, only closer Heath Bell made the list.

I'm also disgusted that so many Yankees made it, at the expense of some pretty good BoSox.

I don't particularly care for the Giants, but I find it odd that they get FOUR pitchers, but no position players. Admittedly, all four pitchers are pretty good, and I wouldn't want to hit against Brian Wilson, but they have some pretty good position players, too. Otherwise, they wouldn't be in first, even in a cr@p division.

The Final Vote is on for the last spot on each team. Candidates are:

AL
Alex Gordon, KC
Adam Jones, BAL
Paul Konerko, CWS
Victor Martinez, DET
Ben Zobrist, TB

NL
Andre Ethier, LAD
Todd Helton, COL
Ian Kennedy, AZ
Michael Morse, WAS
Shane Victorino, PHI

Some of these, for the average fan, fall under the category of "Who?" In any event, I voted for Konerko and Ethier. They seemed to have the better of the preponderance of the provided stats.

Went with Victor Martinez, .335 average and can play catcher or 1B.

The All-Star rosters are too big, they should be the same size as regular season rosters.

Instead of voting extra players on to an already oversized roster, fans should be allowed to vote guys off.

Absolutely ridiculous that Ian Kennedy has to be voted on by the fans....he's the ace of a team fighting for 1st place....

In general, I would agree with you. The problem is that they're trying to avoid the Selig Embarrassment, otherwise known as the 2002 All-Star Game, which ended in a tie.

You wouldn't have that problem if you played the game like a normal game. Let the starters play most, if not all of the game.

They didn't run out of players in 2002 because they didn't have enough, they ran out because the managers were in a hurry to get everyone into the game, even if it was just for one lousy at bat.

If the AL team only carried 2 catchers I could see the benefit of voting for Martinez, but with 3 catchers I have to go with Paul Konerko here.

You're correct, of course, but you can't tell the omniscient managers that. They'll zap you with their thunderbolts!

There are pitchers with better numbers than Kennedy and aren't even getting a chance...Not sure why Kennedy should be going...

Tommy Hanson just improved his record to 10-4, and lowered his ERA to 2.52 with tonight's win. Definitely all star worthy if you ask me.
