Jose Reyes

So there it is, the career stat line of "baseball's best player" as he has been frequently called this year.

Honestly, if the title fits, he has held it for all of 80 games or so in a career extending back to 2003. Curiously, Reyes has put up his OPS+ of 158 -- 52 points than his overall career mark -- in his walk-season.

IMO, the Mets would be better of peddling this guy NOW, at peak value, for a stud prospect. The team which signs Reyes to Carl Crawford-type money is going to get Reyes, 2006-2010, next year, not Reyes 2011 -- a very good ball player, but not the Reyes 2011, and a guy who isn't worth the baggage he brings.

Buyer beware.

I can hear it now in 2012

NOW BATTING FOR THE NEW YORK YANKEES, NUMBER 19, SHORTSTOP JOSE REYES....REYES

Let's face it, you're afraid the glitter is just what attracts the Steinbrenner Brothers...

They have to have him...

You're right.

But the Sox need a SS, so I can only hope.

Anyway, I wonder how bad this "hamstring issue" is going to turn out to be. He looked ok leaving the game yesterday.

Gerund Jose Reyes :thumb:

I think the referral was to this year, this point in time. He might be the hottest hitter stat-wise this year and plays a key position on defense. He could be the best player at this split it time, but I'm going with Bautista or Kemp right now as Pujols is injured.

Nope, the Sox dont need a SS... We have Jose Iglesias.

Iglesias wont hit the ball like Jeter or Reyes, but when he takes over as the SS, probably as soon as next April, he will begin a long streak of gold gloves. The Sox will happily bat him 9th and enjoy his defense and whatever he delivers with his bat will be a bonus.

That's lot of offense to be giving away. He's hitting .220 in Triple A ball and has never projected as even an adequate MLB offensively

Reyes gives you all that defense and offense too. Sign him.

I don't know...the Steinbrenner Brothers have all the cash they don't now what do do with...and they really have not signed a big name since daddy died...

I don't think the Red Sox can compete with the Yankees on this one....I see Reyes in pin-stripes in 2012... :kisswink:

So, if the BoSox need a SS, what are the odds they go see Mr. Hamm?

SuperHornet's Athletics Hall of Fame includes Jacksonville State kicker Ashley Martin, the first girl to score in a Division I football game. She kicked 3 PATs in a 2001 game for J-State.

What are we squabbling about? Jimmy Rollins is looking long-in-the-tooth these days ... Maybe the Yanks will offer him 7 years, $163 M, but he'll take less money to be booed in Philly.

Don't know, as far as we know his wife has never been expacterated at or on while in Yankee Stadium so you guys should still have a shot at him. And not everyone is going to be like Lee and not care about the extra money that the Yanks can give to overcome the agony of having to play there.

But as for Reyes, I absolutely agree with you - you'd be nuts to pay this guy big money and a long term deal and expect that he'd come close to what he's putting up this year. Granted, the kid has been absolutely phenomenal this year, can't deny that, but he's been a cancer for the Mets for years. The Mets aren't making the playoffs this year in the NL so the real question is do they want the draft picks or can they get something better by shopping him now. And I don't think there's a chance in hades that he ends up with the Yanks - I don't see how they would ever spin that press-wise, and I think they've seen enough of Reyes over the years to know that this year is a mirage - again, a really, really good mirage, but a mirage nonetheless.
