I have to apologize for reading the stats wrong. Although each team did have 16 first downs the yardage posted above is correct. NDSU did not have 100 more yrds. For the record here is how UNI ended its drives:

Right, the NDSU passing yds dont count!

UNI has a terrible pass defense, it showed that day. So did their inability to score TDs in the red zone. They were rolling but when the field got short they got knocked back on their heels. Its one of the worst pts to yds ratios I saw all last season but it didnt have anything to do with UNI. Good football team some folks say. But it did have something to do with the BISON and their NFL quality "bend-dont-break" defense.

Not to mention the concept of the "Big 3 Dakota Schools" is a fabrication in your own mind born out of the fact that NDSU, SDSU and USD have all defeated FBS teams...if you want to know who is the best in the Dakotas, why not have the four ADs get together and maybe hammer out something that would allow the four of you to play each other (similar to the COmmander in Chief's trophy for the military academies), then you can really see who is the best in the Dakotas. and not through some construct where you are a legend in your own mind...imagine if FCS schools in any other state tried to pull something like that...

UND quit playing in 2004 and are no longer part of the common heritage as it moves forward. Their future is out west someplace, not in the honored circle of the Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and USD. Maybe they can get something going with UNC, a former NCC school also in the BSC? Its also possible they could get something going with NAIA rival Sioux Falls University. Currently that series is 1-0 in favor of Sioux Falls. They play again this year.

For the uninformed, The Dakotas are actually two states, North and South Dakota. The Big 3 include 2 schools from South Dakota: SDSU and USD, and 1 from North Dakota: NDSU.

Currently NDSU is the champion and best college football team in the Dakotas having unseated SDSU last season. This year sould be very interesting for the Dakota Big 3: NDSU, SDSU and USD.

There is the "big dakota 3" which includes all three of the "little brothers" of the dakota schools. Its a nice little faction that they have formed. Its kind of cute.

And then there is the King of the Dakotas, The University of North Dakota. The Fighting Sioux have historically dominated the little brothers that make up the "big dakota 3", most notably their in-state rival ndsu, who after many years of domination, were beaten into submission by the Mighty Fighting Sioux.

The Big Dakota 3 are: NDSU, SDSU and USD. They compete for the highest honor of best college football team in the Dakotas. True, its a de-facto title, but its real in the sense that all sports fans in the Dakotas watch the Big Three and generally agree the round robin will decide the Dakota Championship. There are a few fans from UND, a school that plays out west someplace and reports most of its scores after midnight, that object, but they are no longer part of the heritage moving forward. They have moved on doing the best thing for UND athletics you know. Even though they are among the worst teams in the FCS they should be able to carve out a comfortable niche in the bottom heavy BSC.

I'm a Bison fan in the real world - where our success since transition hasn't caused me to become either a full-on retard or sad little troll.

We're a good football team - with some notable successes since moving up - we are not the best team in the country - not even close... and until we: 1. beat UNI... ever 2. win a conference title 3. win a national title then the kind of nonsensical braggadocio you spread only serves to make our program, and by extension all of our fans look like fools.

Be happy with where we are - a reasonably successful program that is still growing.

(as for that bit about the Summit League? for God's sake, just be glad the Great West is there to make it look a little less like a hodge-podge of unwanted all-sports schools)
