Seriously, though, it's not that big. But, if you're used to driving along that part of 81 regularly, it looks massive in comparison to what is normally there...aka trees and the top part of the old stadium. The scoreboard being on that side adds to the size perception too.
I've been wondering the size of it as well.

The pictures make it look massive as fuck, but even if the stadium will hold 27k it can't be as big as it looks.

Those pictures make it look like VaTech, Penn St, Florida, Texas, and other non-bowl massive stadiums, yet it is only a fraction of that size in terms of what it can hold.

Yes, seriously.

I was being a little facetious, but my point is still valid.

BTW, Beaver Stadium is one of the ugliest stadiums around. Giant cluster fuck of random bleachers thrown together with no thought of how future expansion could happen.

Apparently the new half of Bridgeforth Stadium will be 130 feet tall, which is taller than Lane Stadium. I know this doesn't necessarily translate into bigger capacity but it was a interesting caveat.

If you think about it, there are probably a few reasons that it is so large, but only seats about 27k

The press box takes up a good chunk of the upper deck where a lot of I-A stadiums have the press box above the upper sections.

Also remember that it is only one side that is double decked where most larger I-A stadiums are large on both sides and the end zone, which brings me to my last point. Whenever the other side gets rebuilt it will seat over 40k

There is no seating at the end zone with the Athletic Center which also reduced capacity found in many stadiums.

Just some thoughts

I drove by there on 81 coming home from baltimore to Tennessee in early april and it looked very impressive. Love the purple seats also. Kudos to jmu for a facilities upgrade that is long overdue in Newark.

Oh wait, I'll get it going again...

"Man, that place is huge!!!! The pictures don't do it justice - wait till you see how tall it is from I-81" and...

"I know they have the capacity listed as 25k, but everyone knows it's really 27k or 28k, and really, with a few more folding chairs in the concourse it'll really be 30k+ when all is said and done" and...

"It's unbelievable how tall it is, just freaking unbelievable!"

That should do it.

Nah, it's already an hour and 15 minute drive for me to get to Newark. It's about a 4.5 hour drive for me to get to Harrisonburg. The stands could be 500 feet tall (wait, are they already that high?) and it still wouldn't make me want to make that drive regularly.

Besides, I sit 9 rows up at the 35 yard line for UD - I'm not really hurting when it comes to ambience or quality of football spectating. I'm not a member of the press nor would I be a person who would ever be in club or luxury box seating. UD could build a stadium like that and it wouldn't really benefit me, other than raising my ticket cost. I wouldn't object to a new stadium, but I'm not part of the crowd demanding a new one. Current one works just fine for me and the family. :thumb:

The only way to REALLY judge the quality of the stadium is to look at the restrooms. We need pictures of the restrooms. Urinals or pisswall?

Sorry about that. Perhaps we need to find a more appropriate thread for these pictures. I guess it's off topic for this one.

I hope for the sake of every living JMU fan and player that they hold their early season games at night and not during the day. That place looks like it's about a thousand degrees. Richmond's stadium is made from brick instead of all that aluminum, and it was hotter'n all get out last year on September 25th.

Great stadium. My only advice for the overall fan experience...

Oh yes.. please please please create another 15 plus page thread so that we can get daily updates on this stadium. And please make sure you start the exact same thread and post the exact same photos over on AGS....that thread is almost at 30 pages now...it is definitely time for new threads.

For TV games where will they set up the cameras. The sight lines would be better from the large side, but that would make the facilities look terrible as they'd be pointed towards the small side.

For the record I like it and you can tell someone planned this one out right. If I were a UD fan I'd hate this thread too, they sound like GSU fans when ASU was passing them in the arms race.

The cameras will be set up on the new side, so the view on TV will be of the old. As you said, the sight lines are better plus the new press box has camera platforms. A camera platform is also being put in the new endzone. It is a bummer that the view will be of the old side, but I guess it is what it is.

The UD fans are being UD fans. I have no problem with it.

I never said new stadium Gannonfan, just serious upgrades befitting where our standing is among 1-AA schools. I love all of our tradition, probably more than most. But I think you would agree with me that our pressbox is an embarrassment. As compared with other schools. And filling out all 4 corners of the stadium makes sense too.

The least of my concerns in life, or even just about UD football, is how our pressbox matches up with other FCS schools. I'm not in the media, nor will ever be in the media, so the pressbox will never impact me. Heck, I sit on the west stands, I don't even see the pressbox during games. If the facilities really did impact our ability to put a winning football team on the field, then I would be concerned. But after watching Richmond and nova and EWU win titles in the past 3 years, it's pretty apparent that facilities and play on the field, at the FCS level, are mutually exclusive. With that said, JMU fans should be excited - going from a 15k stadium to a 25k seat stadium is a big deal - a 66% increase in potential attendance would be a positive impact for the average (non-press, non-luxury box) fan. Going from 22k to 25k, eh 13% increase, I don't think it would matter much to me as a UD fan.
