Depends on when you tuned in. A couple of those games went to extra innings, IIRC, so some people took off early. Anyway, even if there are a few empty seats here and there, every seat is sold. Atlanta can't even touch that.Grizalltheway wrote:Nope.89Hen wrote: You were watching a replay of the series in Atlanta.

I seem to remember the upper deck being pretty sparsly populated. In any event, I'm sure if they had a Fenway or Wrigley-sized park, that wouldn't be the case.Ivytalk wrote:Depends on when you tuned in. Re: Phillies Parade
Could've been one of two games - Friday night people were surprised they played after a 2 hour rain delay & the game winning Ibanez HR was after midnight so maybe you saw empty seats. Sunday's game was a 14-1 blowout & if I remember right it was in the 90's so people may have snuck out. Facts are facts though - the Phillies have sold out what 170-or 180-something in a row? That includes like 500 SRO seats for every game too. Longest current streak in baseball. Won't end until 2012 at the earliest.

I've got a lot of friends and former colleagues still in Philly - and they've become unbearable about it. Not quite to Yankee/Red Sox fan level... but damn close...
and again - I like the Phils... after spending '06 in Philly - and seeing CBP... I adopted them as the NL team I cheer for... that being said - becoming obnoxious.

I don't know if this is true for CPB - but at Target Field - the quality and quantity of standing room is impressive - and often - casual fans will wander the park and watch from the standing room... I know I do at Twins games - and did at CPB the one time I was there... creates the illusion of a "non-sellout" on TV...Grizalltheway wrote:I seem to remember the upper deck being pretty sparsly populated. Re: Phillies Parade
I went to friday's game which had the lowest attendance stadium was about 75% full this being after an hour and a half rain delay, and by rain delay i mean torrential downpours. The other two days the ballpark looked 100%. Beats Atlanta they cant even sell out a playoff gameGrizalltheway wrote:Saw A LOT of empty seats when I had a chance to catch some of the Phillies-Braves series last weekend.bluehenbillk wrote:Actually I agree with TwinTownBison. Philly has always been a big market city that played "small market" for years or rather decades. It was frustrating knowing that one of the "Gang of Eight" or however many people own the Phils is a multi-billionaire who is one of the richest guys in America.
It all changed when CBP was built, and like they say "if you build it, they will come". The place is sold out every night - longest streak in the majors, and fans around here now believe we are sitting at the same table with the Red Sox & the Yankees now. Honestly, it doesn't hurt when you see Ruben Amaro dominate the baseball world headlines the last 2 years: Trades for Roy Halladay, Cliff Lee and Roy Oswalt, and then steals Cliff Lee back right from under the Yankees & Rangers noses. It will be a major disappointment to Phils fans if they don't claim their 2nd WS in the last 4 years this fall, and frankly that's the same expectations Yankee & Redsox fans have. And we're just as obnoxious as those 2 cities fans, not anymore so, that's just the national media's portrayal.
So yeah TwinTown, you're probably right.

Phils have the highest average attendance in baseball without having the biggest stadium.

after a decade and a half of being in there EVERY year some of the new car smell wears off. you'll NEVER have to worry about that.

Oddly enough, both the Phils and Braves have been to the World Series the same number of times in the last 30 seasons and the Phils have double the World Series trophies.citdog wrote:SENOREIDA wrote: I went to friday's game which had the lowest attendance stadium was about 75% full this being after an hour and a half rain delay, and by rain delay i mean torrential downpours. Re: Phillies Parade
You just knew it wasn't going to be a good game when Ryan and Chase watch a high infield pop-up drop between them in the first with two outs that allowed a run to score. They did a slow-mo replay and you could read Hamels' lips say "Come on! Fuck!"
At least the Braves lost to the Natinals too. No ground lost.

Halladay has a few days to figure out what went wrong because the temperature on Sunday afternoon, his next scheduled start, is certainly going to be hotter than last night's game in Chicago...

Re: Phillies Parade
From what I understand, Halladay went through his full pre-game workout last night before the game. By all accounts, his regimin is insane and likely contributed to his heat stress.bluehenbillk wrote:Halladay has a few days to figure out what went wrong because the temperature on Sunday afternoon, his next scheduled start, is certainly going to be hotter than last night's game in Chicago...
Maybe tone down the pre-game routine just a little bit, Doc.
Also hydration.

Eh, pitching in Canada all those years just made him soft when it comes to the heat. As long as he's fine by October - it should be a little cooler then.93henfan wrote:From what I understand, Halladay went through his full pre-game workout last night before the game. What a week for MM. Tonight he goes from first to home on an Utley double and then gets a 2 RBI blooper in the top of the 9th. Game not over yet, but the Phils storm back from 0-2 in the 8th to go up 4-2.
Braves getting trounced by the Rocks too.
EDIT: For good measure, Ole Dirty Bastardo strikes out the side. Woot!

With all apologies to Lidge & Madson - you guys have been "Wally Pipped". How do you move Bastardo out of the closer role at this point? Dude is having a lights out season.

Who'd have thought in a 3-game series with Halladay & Lee pitching that the best performance comes from "El Vanimal". Who's this Blanton guy? Never heard of him.

I think he's already in the conversation - still quite a few people ahead of him, but he's on the radar, that's for sure.SunCoastBlueHen wrote:How many more quality starts until VW pitches his way into ROY conversations?
