I turned in my ballot today for the media poll and I'm going against the grain and picking a new champion in the SoCon. Nobody has won 7 and while ASU has the most talent in the league again it is a much slimmer margin than ever before and with the slight decline in coaching over the last 2 years in general I think GSU or even Wofford will dethrone ASU.
Here is my ballot:
1 Georgia Southern
2 Appalachian State
3 Wofford
4 Chattanooga
5 Furman
6 Elon
7 The Citadel
8 Samford
9 Western Carolina
SoCon Media Ballot

Re: SoCon Media Ballot
Reasonable reasons for GSU at #1. ASU has a lot of question marks and should be much better at the end of the year than beginning so that could easily slip early.
I look for UTC to finish 3rd ahead of Wofford.
Don't know much about the bottom three, but I think Citadel would be last.

Re: SoCon Media Ballot
We are such an unknown quantity I have no idea what to expect this season. That said, I am not sure I would pick The Citadel ahead of WCU just yet, and probably not Samford, either.
If we can keep the ball off the ground (what was it... 9 turnovers against GSU last year?) then we'll compete more than not. Rest assured this season is make or break for Coach Higgins.

I'll certainly take a fifth place pick this year and hope for better.
The Citadel may be an unknown quantity, I'll put FU in that category also.

Honestly, the top 4 are interchangeable and since I've grown a social life preseason predictions have absolutely no value to me. I don't think Chattanooga will finish ahead of Wofford. I think the top spot will go to either Wofford or GSU (homer pick says Wofford), the third spot will go to chatty, and the fourth to App. If App wins conference again, I think there is legit reason to give Moore COY more so than years past

Ok. App will be somewhat down next year... but, let's not get carried away.

Everyone (on the WCU board) knows that the Catamounts have the recruiting for the past four years, and will be the class of the SoCon for years now.
The biggest question is: Will Georgia Southern finally be able to break through and beat Samford?

So, with all the love Georgia Southern is getting does this mean the target is on its back?
I'm not sure what to expect from ASU this year. ASU has a good schedule with GSU and Chatty at KBS. No one knows what to expect from Furman, and WoCo is always tough to beat in Sparkle City (I'll be at that game). I think ASU will compete for the championship and Black Saturday could end up being the de facto SoCon championship game. Honestly, I was surprised with last season...I did not expect to go 10-3. So, I'm hoping to be surprised again this year.
My heart says ASU will go 7-1 in the SoCon (loss at WoCo).
My head says ASU will go 6-2 in the SoCon (loss at WoCo and to GSU).

It remains to be seen whether GSU is as good as they played down the stretch last year or if it was a team that got hot at the right time.ASUMountaineer wrote:So, with all the love Georgia Southern is getting does this mean the target is on its back?

I think I know the answer to that (check out the video of the Eagles in the weight room on GSUFANS) but GSU has to play both App and Wofford on the road, and based on the past three years the first game ain't a gimme either.
I'd put both App and Wofford ahead of GSU in the conference prediction but I think all three are NC contenders.
